Everybody had to start somewhere and I saw this on the Facebook page and I wanted to hear the responses on this forum. What vehicle was your first professional detail on and what did you do to it? I am not a professional detailer but I did have my first paying gig when I was 18 in 1981. My first was a 1979 Dodge Diplomat. My neighbor Mrs. Scott wanted a thorough interior and exterior cleaning and tar removal from the side panels. The car soap was Dupont No. 7 and I used a sea sponge. At the time the only product available was Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover. I picked most of the tar off with my fingernails and then used the Turtle Wax. I used SOS pads on the tires to make the white walls white again and then Lemon Pledge to add a shine. The interior was cleaned with Armor All cleaner and finished with Armor All "protectant". The glass was cleaned with Windex. I also added a coat of Rain Dance. She was happy with the results and I got paid $20.00.

Great story. $20 was doing well for a hobbyist in 1981. Removing tar with fingernails, been there done that.

If memory serves me right:
>>>(I know, “big IF”)<<<

•I had the privilege to wash and wax
a 1957 Nash/Hudson Metropolitan:
-ca. 1961
-Simoniz Vista
-Bartering reaped some ice-cold
sweet tea; and, a couple of packs
of Lucky Strikes.

I like threads like this one. Where I get to hear what you guys used back in the old days before every company made a hundred different products.
My first was a 2001 Altima interior that DuPont Teflon Protectant.
After that I started detailing any vehicle I could find until I could save up enough to open my own shop.
