What wax would you recommend for a 2010 Black Cadillac Escalade?

Are there any waxes that are recommended specifically for a black car? I read the review of the new Black Ice wax but $150 just for the wax seems way over pricd. Also I'll be doing this by hand.
 
What condition is the paint in? Any above surface contamination, swirls, scratches, holograms etc.?

What are you trying to do?

I can give you a bunch of waxes but would like to know what you want to achieve with you vehicle.
 
Hey Evan, the paint is in decent shape. I just purchased this from a Cadillac dealership 3 days ago where they did a pretty good prep job. But I do see some swirl marks in it but there a no major paint defects. This will be my daily driver. But I would just like a deep wet swirl free look. I have about 3 hrs a week to put into the car.
 
I like either Collonite 845, DODO Juice (Velvet) or Nattys Blue - I use these on a black chevy avalanche and results are good - Nattys and Collonite are probably your best value

Cross your fingers more swirls don't show up as you wash the car that are currently being masked by wax or something...


The new BlackFire BlackICE wax does work incredibly well as I have used it on 3 SIV's to date.

If you apply thin coats, by hand, to properly prepared paint, you should be able to get up to 25-30 applications out of one jar.

You will come to find that most dealerships don't do as well as you may think but thats ok we will get you going in the proper direction. :dblthumb2:

Now, a few more question:
You said you want a swirl free finish so do you want to work by hand or by machine (Dual Action polisher)?

Both hand and machine you can achieve a swirl free finish.

Once we figure that out we can move on. One test that you will want to do is called the baggies test. This test is easy and simple. All your going to do is get a thin sandwich bag, place your hand inside the bag and begin to run hand lightly over the paint on your car. The test enhances your feel and allows you to feel any above surface contamination. This contamination is going to reduce the gloss of that paint. If you feel and rough texture or grabbing from the paint then you know you will need to clay your paint.

Hey Evan, right now I do things by hand. I lack to confidence to use a DA polisher. And I'd be too nervous to start on a black car, ha ha. I'll try the baggie test today though.
 
Evan what are your thoughts about Mikes idea of using Iron X instead of the Clay bar? I've never heard of Iron X before.

Sounds like a plan and as Mike said hopefully the wax that is on there no isn't masking and swirls or holograms.

Well Iron X is great for removing Iron particles from the paint. Sometimes clay isn't going to remove everything from the paint. Iron X is a great tool to use. :dblthumb2:
 
Wow I just watched some YouTube videos of Iron X. That's some interesting stuff! I could see using Iron X first then going back over it with a clay bar. Man I can see this is going to get expensive :) Btw Mike I can see I'm going to be following your plan of attack pretty closely. Thanks again guys.
 
Venom93corba--have you thought about using Collinite 476 as your wax?? With my wife's black VW I want to be touching it the least amount I can get away with. The 476 looks great on black, is reasonably priced and will last for 6 months and maybe more.
 
Would it make any sense for him to bring out the Dawn soap, wash it. Then see what he has to work with? All the swirls and touchups would pop out no?
