I know this is a sensitive topic for some people as there are quite a few of us that believe nothing should go on top of O.C as that would negate the properties of the coating. Then there are others who claim that topping the O.C with a wax only serves as additional protection and does not diminish durability of the coating.

Well, I had a conversation with Dr. Ghodoussi and he said that stuff like Opti-Seal on top of O.C will be totally fine.

That leads me to ask what waxes have you used to top O.C?

Please share your results.

You can absolutely top Opti-Coat with a wax. The only reason people say you cannot is because it was once said nothing sticks to Opti-Coat, therefore a wax would only stick until the next wash.

I have read threads that claim this not to be true, but what I can do is share my experience when my car was Opti-Coated. Because I enjoy detailing my car, I decided to wax it, even though Opti-Coat had been applied a few months prior. What I can say is it was the best the car had looked (up until I jeweled the paint and applied GTechniq C1 & EXO). The wax (Zymöl Glasur) appeared to be on the paint even after the wash. I say this based on the characteristics of the paint post wash, as well as the look of the paint.

If you want to throw a wax on the paint, even if it is Opti-Coated, I say, go for it! It's your car. Sometimes it is best to use trial-and-error, and find the thing that works best for you! :props:

Happy detailing!

Nobody ever said that topping a coating would do it any harm. If that were true, the coating would be worthless. The question has always been...why..?..especially on a daily driver.

Put maple syrup on it if that's your thing. I'm from the school of thought that touching the paint as little as possible is the key to maintaining a flawless finish and longer weekends.

No wax, waste of time IMO. Sonax Brilliant Shine detailer. It works well and doesn't mute beading.

When I went to Meguiar's 101. They said that opti coat is good but doesn't have a glossy finish like other coatings.(forgot which ones they said do have a glossier finish) Rather not names but it was one of the main guys.

I am at the point where I want to correct my paint then coat it. Then with proper care just maintain the finish and concentrate on work, school and other cars.

I have also been thinking about topping opti coat. Christopher Brown had his Honda opti coated and man his finish looked great. I did ask him in person when we were at TNOG and he was WW his car. If he had ever attempted to wax it. He just said no, and for what? (Not exact words btw)

Well I am part of a class that believes waxes and sealants do add more gloss. Maybe they reflect light more :dunno: but I know they do. I can see it. (Yes I said it, :cruisin: )

So this got me thinking of topping my coating. Just to see if there will be more gloss. So I will be trying that later on. I really like the gloss Menzerna PL leaves behind. I still have about 3/4 of the bottle. I also have more than 3/4 of ColorLock.

:iagree:

If you want another option Optimum Car wax or Chemical Guys v07 works well with OC

This thread is of interest to me. I'm about to do some polished clear coated aluminum wheels. I don't want them to be mute and not glossy... maybe I should use something else instead of OC?
