So, in July we detailed the family truck - '01 Black Yukon XL Denali. The truck was washed, clayed, washed, polished, 360'd, and Souveran Pasted.

We expected that this combination would protect/bead for 8 to 12 weeks. This weekend we finally get around to washing it again and found that the roof and hood didn't bead at all! The sides still beaded quite well, but we were really disappointed with the hood and roof.

So, knowing that we did come close to 8 weeks, but not quite, why wouldn't or didn't this combination last that long? I do realize that the wax will melt sitting in the sun (especially on the horizontal surfaces), but I expected the underlying 360 to still be going.Feed back please

What part of the country are you in? Wax in the southern states (especially Souveran) don't last that long at all. When you did the 360, how did you use it? By hand or machine? If by machine, did you apply and remove or did you work it in until it disappeared like a polish? How long did you wait after the 360 to apply the souveran? What was your wash schedule for the 8 weeks and what products were used? Sorry for so many questions but answers to these should lead to an answer for you...

Beading isn't a true way to tell if a wax is still on a vehicle. There's a good chance that there is still protection on the vehicle but it just isn't visible to you anymore. But when beading does disapper, you should make a mental note to apply wax again soon :).

Souveran isn't made for durability but it still should have been beading around that point, I've had Natty's Blue last quite longer then that. Horizontal surfaces take the most abuse which is why you'll see the sides still beading. What soap are you washing with?

We're in South-Western Jersey. We applied the 360 by machine (Porter-Cable on Roof, UDM on Hood & Sides; only because there were two of us doing it so one did the roof while the other did the sides) and we worked it in until it disappeared. I don't think we waited more than an hour before we put the wax on. I thought that 360 was ready to go after it was applied unlike Klasse etc. . . Does 360 need a couple hours like some of the other sealants?

As far as wash schedule, it hadn't been washed at all between the full detail (July 3rd) and this weekend. It had mostly been sitting in the driveway; it wasn't used very often. For the washing this weekend we used DG902. During the full detail, the first wash was Gold Class and the second was DG.

NP on all the questions. I'd really like to know where we went wrong (even if it was just that our expectations were too high) so whatever information anyone needs to fill in the blanks. . .

If I use an AIO product like 360 or PB PwS or Optimum Poly-seal is to just apply it onto the surface and then remove about 20 mins later. This way the sealant properties of the product don't get used up and are allowed to bond to the surface. If you use it as a polish, which you did, the sealant properties could have been diminished. I've never used 360 but have had a lot of experience with PwS and Poly-seal, which are similar. That's the only thing that I can think of... it seems like everything else you did was fine. We'll see if anyone else has any other ideas.

No other ideas. Everything seemed fine to me also. Budman waits 20 mins., I do similar in that I'll apply an AIO to the whole car before I remove it. I've read that XMT360 does not need a cure time.

this is why I run a sealant under Souveran paste in the spring and summer months. It just cannot handle the heat long term without care. If you wash it weekly with Pinnacle Soap and use Souveran Spray Wax afterwards the outcome can be quite different.

Thanks for the replies. I've been a firm believer in the maintenance details (Wash/Spray Wax), but sometimes time (and the weather) just get the better of you - as is the case with the truck.

I'm still surprised the 360 failed in 7 weeks though. Does 360 seal better if it isn't polished but instead applied like a wax?
