What's the deal with this paint?

This past weekend I did a one-step detail using Megs UC on a 1964 1/2 Mustang for my cousin. The car was repainted about 3 years ago and the quality was not the best. However, I was surprised to see how much it actually cleared up just from using Megs UC on microfiber cutting pads.

I can't imagine that the UC leveled the clear out this much, but I didn't notice the paint being oxidized either. Is it safe to say that the clear on this car is very soft, or was it actually oxidized?

Left-half after Megs UC w/Optimum MF cutting pad and DA.

If your pad was black after polishing, the paint was just dirty. If not it was probably just slightly oxidized.

The pad didn't change color at all other than accumulating spent product which I would clean after each pass and I clayed before polishing.

either way the pad would be colored after polishing

Unless it was a base coat clear coat paint job. But if it was a single stage the pad would change color.

Most likely just light oxidation in my opinion.

your right it sounds like it was just dirty with some oxidation.

its possible that when the original cut/buff was done after wet sanding( that is, if it was wet sanded and then cut/buff) the cc was not cured yet. as it cures it will shrink and dull out a bit. that, plus 3 years of no real paint care or just 3 years of no real paint care.
