what's the last car care/detailing video you've just watched?

sorry to hear that Rick

The car served me good for 6+ yrs.
I put quite a bit of money into it with repairs [I’m looking at the stack of service records in front of me now] but I never had a monthly car payment, so I can’t really complain.

Lets see what the future has in store. Maybe I’ll get another one of these badges with the #9 on it.

I did refill the transmission fluid. It took a whole 5 quart jug + almost another quart and it’s still maybe .5 quart low at this point.

I had a brand new radiator installed Feb. 2023.

I 1st noticed oil in my coolant reservoir in Oct. 2023.

At the same time I noticed the oil in the coolant I checked my transmission fluid and it was full and bright pink/red. Perfect looking trans fluid.

I’m not certain it’s transmission fluid in the coolant reservoir, that’s just a guess since I somehow ran dry and never noticed any leaks under the car. But I had always assumed it was engine oil in there and it was only maybe about 1/4” worth of oil that would sit on top of the coolant. I tried to turkey baster it out but could never completely remove all the oil from the reservoir. I even used my Ridgid vac to suck all the coolant out of the reservoir once, but even then couldn’t remove 100% of the oil out of it.

I would find it kind of hard to believe that more than 5 quarts somehow would’ve leaked into my coolant reservoir due to there never appearing to be more than 1/4” worth of oil sitting on top of coolant at any time over the past 3yrs. and I have to top off coolant every 3-4 months due to the head gasket leak in my engine, so I’m very familiar with the condition of the coolant at all times.

Oh, I didn't realize the head gasket was still leaking. But still...that trans fluid is going somewhere, if you're not seeing any leaks, it still seems to me that it's going into the coolant and then out the tailpipe. Are you sure the coolant loss is through the head gasket? Do you smell/see coolant in the exhaust? I've had difficult to find coolant leaks before, if they are on a hot engine area they can be difficult to find, but after a while you will get some pink Dexcool crust.

And just because you got a new radiator doesn't mean the cooler isn't leaking. If you've really got a blown head gasket then I understand your decision to get rid of the car, but I think all BLM and I are saying is that if the straw that broke you was the trans, it may be the radiator rather than the trans that's bad. If the trans fluid is clear, it would seem you aren't getting any coolant in there, because it would be milky.

Do you go on any of the Cadillac forums? It may be that some of these problems are known and you may be able to get some help tracking them down. But I know sometimes you just have had enough with a particular car and want to move on.

Do you go on any of the Cadillac forums?

I’ve been an active member on the Cadillac Forum for the past 20yrs. I’m among the longest tenured members on there.

I just checked, and I pre date the Super Moderator of that forum by a year, which might make me the longest lasting member of that entire forum. They know me very well over there. Lol.

have you checked to see if shifter linkage move also check and see if cv axle broke ?

It’s not the shifter linkage since the car does shift into Neutral. I was able to put it in Neutral and push it down the driveway and back up to park it arse 1st the way it sits now. Otherwise it won’t move at all in any gear.

It was working/shifting perfectly fine. I moved the car out of the way to let a customer take their car home and the next time I hopped in to move my car back into the driveway it wouldn’t budge.

Have you ever had one of those -throwback moments- but you just can't find

I've decided to do a Spot Free Setup. Previously had a CR but it was annoying....

Back in the days, before there was even a definition of content creator, there was a professional detailer showing his shop, etc and to this day, I kinda, sorta always left a impression on me on his DI setup. It was a full blown system with a reserve tank, all hidden, etc

I of course cannot find it now, with soooooo much content out there.

I'm sure by typing this my algorithm will change and it will somehow show up in my feeds

Just talk about it out loud near your phone, quite a few times I've mentioned brand names and then had ads or content appear on Instagram or YouTube.

That is a true fact. I once was talking to someone about something very specific and unqiue......
Needless to say, the next day, in my email box, I got a marketing email from this very specific vendor..

The video is more like 7+ years last time I watched it. This pro detailer had a very complex DI setup....very well thought out.

Reminds me of an old video that was home video taped at Meguiars headquarters in Irvine, Ca.

It was in an empty warehouse and it was a surprise Birthday party for Mike Phillips. Barry Meguiar gave a little speech talking about Mike, telling a few jokes and giving him a little praise too. It was a super old vid.

When I mentioned it to Mike he was overjoyed and remembered the day and practically begged me to please link it, but I couldn’t ever find it again. I told him I had found it one night after clicking down the most random rabbit holes of detailing content that turned up some of the oldest videos I’ve ever seen on youtube.

Unfortunately I could never duplicate the search that found that video again.

Mike Phillips is a cool guy, I hope all is well with him.

You realize he has his own forum now?

Yea, but I don’t go on there, so therefore I haven’t had contact or heard anything in quite a while now. Last time we interacted was in the youtube comments on 1 of his videos about a year ago.

I recently saw an episode of the show Roadworthy Rescues on the Motortrend network where Mike Phillips made a guest appearance on that show. He showed the host how to revive the dull/dirty paint on an old Thunderbird that had been stored/neglected for years. Don't think that show is still in production so the episode was probably filmed a couple years ago.

Just watched a few detailing videos and I've come to a conclusion. That is 95% of you tube influencers are full of crap. Any influencer with something to sell are usually the most likely to sling the BS. Some are more blatant about it than others. Their number one priority is to sell you on the product/products that they are pitching.
I m much more likely to believe the information presented by one with nothing to sell.

I haven’t watched too much on detailing in the last 6 months. I check in on The Guz from time to time.

I also follow Eric7810 from here on social media (oaklandautodetail). He and his wife make some really funny reels/clips/shorts whatever you call them. Very high quality, well put together.

Eldo- terribly sorry to hear about the Cadillac. Please make a post with whatever you replace it with. Sounds like you’re done with it and want to move on, which I completely understand. It is a beautiful car though.
