what's the last car care/detailing video you've just watched?

Don’t ask me why I even wind up putting some of these videos on… Maybe it’s just to see what ridiculous falsehoods I’ll hear next. Lol.

So in this recent video, Yvan is putting on a wheel cleaning tutorial, when he makes the bold statement that “you don’t want to use an acid based wheel cleaner on these factory wheels, because if you do, it’ll turn them black”

That’s when I said to myself, “what was that I just heard? That’s not true”

Yvan is claiming you can’t use an acid based wheel cleaner on any Toyota/Lexus OEM clearcoated wheels because they’ll turn Black.

I posted a comment disagreeing with his statement. He replied, and he tried to give me the same excuse he gave the last time when I asked him to prove that a power washer rinse can supposedly instill swirls… I think I came back with a good reply, while keeping it respectful. [these replies between us to my OP happened within minutes of each other. He hasn’t replied to my last post]

Check it out.

The thing is, he makes a lot of these outlandish claims knowing it drives viewer "engagement", which then helps the algorithm push the video to more people. So in effect, you've just helped their cause.

Meanwhile, I'm off to clean the black roof of my Mustang with a brush and pressure washer.

No! Lol. It’s not intentional rage bait. There’s no way it is, he legit believes this stuff based on trying to drive sales, that’s what I’m convinced of.

That video is actually funny because the Australian dude he’s with, that’s obviously an experienced detailer is looking at him while he’s explaining his theory and he’s got a look on his face like “are you serious”? Lol.

That’s the look he gives him when Yvan brings up his foam rinse foam method for cleaning wheels in order to prevent scratching them… When in reality none of us have ever scratched any wheels nor do we even worry about that because it’s a complete non factor. [except for maybe when cleaning some Gloss Black wheels]

That's Mark from CarCareCo, the Australian DIY, P&S and TRC distributor. Ivan was here a few months ago doing workshops, so this would have been filmed then. Without trying to insult, but Mark lacks modern promotional skills and so I guess this was a leg up for them. Mark also comes from the commercial car wash industry, supplying pay and spray products.

So..........................I went and found your comments on that video, and his link to a Facebook page that apparently mentions the Toyota and Lexus wheels. Want to guess who's page it is? That's right, a private group for DIY Detail. So he wants you to join their group to further the gravy train.

I think Ivan is an opportunist and will seek an opportunity any way the wind is blowing.

Agreed. And good on him, many lack that quality. The deliberate, outlandish claims are attention seeking in my view.

He looks like a successful Kirby vacuum door to door salesman, from the 1930’s. Seriously I bet he would’ve killed it. Lol.
[even during the great depression]

Always been my philosophy, whenever I bring my car for service (and I do as much as I can do avoid that), I always make sure it's clean so people think "someone cares about this car; I'd better care too".
It would be nice if they did care, but I took one of my cars in for a service in immaculate condition, with brand new wheels, which I told them about, and they gave it back with a scuff on the roof and every wheel with chipped paint around the lug nuts. I walked straight back in and got the service manager, they did fix it if course.

I do the same. I even make sure the engine compartment is detailed. The guys at the mechanic shop that I’ve been taking my Cadillacs to for over 20yrs. know I’m a detailer. Lol.
