I finally got to use my microfiber chenille wash mitt today! Due to weather and my schedule the past month has all been rinseless washes. I finished up my wash and then I realized... I don't know how to properly care for my mitt. So far I have rinsed it off pretty well and that's about it.

Maybe this is a trivial question, but then again a lot of things detailing related seem basic, common sense, or general knowledge until you find that there is a better way. (ex using a chamois vs waffle weaves).

So...

1. How often should bit be laundered? (after each wash?)
2. Should I air dry it? Let it sit in the sun? Toss it in the dryer?
3. Do I treat it like I do my microfiber towels?
4. Any other tid bits of knowledge you can share on this topic...

Also, I have a microfiber chenille, but if you have another form of wash media and would like to share your care tips, please feel free. That would make the thread an even better source of information, and who knows I may get something else some day.

What I do is after every wash, I will wring all soap out and blast it with the hose to make sure that no grit is lodged in the fibers while it sat in the bucket after my final panel. Other than that, I tend to treat mine like my towels and wash it after every use then dry in the drying machine on the lowest heat.

I do the same thing.. I was told to use Tide free and Clear.. wash on highest heat setting (I use the 2 hour santize cycle) and dry on lowest heat or air fluff. I have yellow MF I turn black from detailing and they come out perfectly clean. I do the same thing with my mitts although cheap they do the job. About to get a MF madness mitt!

I wash mine with the pressure washer from the inside to loosen all the grit and blow it away from the fibers.

I wash mine like my towels with tide or either chemical guys microfiber detergent after rubbing it against the grit guard and once washed I let it air dry

Woah... neat idea. How do you keep your mitt steady when you do that?

wash with MF towels and MicroRestore. I add Oxyclean if the towels are just dirty. I add a couple capfuls of APC after a polishing/wax job. I always use the autosoak feature on hot/cold and a double rinse. I don't dry my wash mitts though, I just let them air dry. Most of them have a loop inside the cuff to hang them.

Yeah I should've pointed out that I do also use tide free and clear with the hottest setting on the washing machine but dry on low. Always a clean pure white mitt again (Meg's Wash Mitt) even if it got extremely dirty from lower rocker panels.

blast as much debris off the mitt with the hose, then put the hose inside the mitt (cuff the top) which will give a balloon effect and you can massage out any soap/debris leftover while the water is coming out. been doing this for many years...

yeah this is what i've done with all of my mitts since the beginning of time. i use incredimitts and megs mitts now, but same difference re: cleaning.

post vehicle wash, i rinse them out well on the outside, rinse them from the inside and then hang them from the edge of one of my two buckets to air dry. i always have separate mitts for the paint, etc. then one for wheels and tires but if one becomes too dirty and doesn't clean up properly, i'll spray some Power Clean on them then wash them with Micro Restore, rinse well, spin dry then back to air drying on the edge of the bucket(s). that is very VERY rare though.

ps - keep your eyes peeled for little bits that will eventually show up with that chenille mitt. i switched from them a while back because the elastic in the cuff dries out, breaks up and then ends up everywhere in the form of little hard bits inside and out...and in your wash solution.
