Yeah, same thing happened to me when I went to the lake to watch the submarine races...or maybe that was something that happened in Animal House or Back to the Future. Canoe races, really? I guess that must be a Hawaii thing.

I just checked the latitudes...Hawaii is about twice as far south of me as you are north of me. So you have moved 30+ degrees of latitude. Dave is not quite as far south of the equator as I am north. What this all means...I'm not sure, but....

It can definitely cause some brow furrowing, we've lived here just over 5 years and I still occasionally look up when I'm walking the dogs at night and things aren't where I expect them to be. Our neighbourhood is layed out in lots of curves, not too many straight streets around here.

Interesting fact about the crescent moon I saw last night, having the crescent at that angle means the sun and moon are almost in the same plain, so I thought I should look up when our next lunar eclipse is going to happen, it's in less than two weeks, September 8 to be exact. Fingers crossed for fine weather.

I saw this picture only a week or two back, it shows what the earth looks like if you're centred over the Pacific Ocean, Australia and New Zealand are down the bottom left, I think that's Hawaii upper left, I could be mistaken, but it shows why they call it Oceania. This means nothing if you're a flat earther of course, just more Nasa propaganda.

Which makes the accomplishments of the Polynesian voyagers and navigators all that more amazing to people who didn't already know

The fact that they recognize now that Polynesians PROBABLY sailed to continental South America as well just doubles down on the wow factor

Sun, Moon, same plane...that's all Greek to me. Oh...I remember what the problem is...when we had the Differential Aptitude Test in Jr. High I didn't do that well in spatial relations (I think that's what it was called). A man's got to know his limitations.

I used to have an unwritten rule that the furnace can't be used till Novenmber 1st. Some years that worked out and some not. Some years it was pretty chilly in the house the last two weeks of October and some years my family would just wait till I left for work and then turn the furnace on.
