I've always used tire cleaner and brushes to clean my wheels and tires prior to a wash but do some just use their wash bucket and no wheel cleaner?

I bring this up because I'm look at the sample pictures for the Daytona brushes and the chemicals look soapy, not foamy. I could be reading too much into it I suppose.

I am a novice at using detailing products, but have taken the SONAX wheel cleaner to the self-service car wash, spray it on, then scrub away with my Wheel Woolies. Very little splatter. - and then plunk my change in the box to start washing. So "no bucket" here.

I actually use both wheel cleaners or apc with soap in a wash bucket

It your wheels are protected then sonax and any kind of wheel cleaner is overkill. I think the images you saw were from wg wheel cleaner it does look soapy when you start to agitate it with brushes. Also use a 3rd bucket dedicated to wheels, never mix it with your other buckets 5o wash your car.
I wouldn't recommend the Daytona brushes since they sling allot of the stuff back at you. I would use the wheel woolies

The wheels on my Yukon are clear coated chrome and I wash weekly, so CG Honeydew works great for me with a black chenille wash mitt, dry with black microfiber.

Many people suggest washing wheels and tires first to avoid chemicals splashing on the paint....because I use only soap; I am able to use the leftover wash water from washing the paint for the wheels. This allows me to stick to two buckets and expedites the process.

Is there a specific reason why you use cg honeydew to clean your wheels is that your dedicated soap or is it just the soap you have on hand?

I treat the wheels with a wheel cleaner, but my bucket is also full of soapy water so when I scrub the wheels my brushes are soapy from the solution in the bucket, but the wheel cleaner has already done it's thing since I let it dwell on the wheels prior to scrubbing.

This is the procedure I use on my GMC. It never sees rain (garaged) washed weekly for light dust. The leftover wash soap plus a dedicated wheel mitt cleans the wheels without using a harsh wheel cleaner. On other vehicles the wheels/barrels get done first with a dedicated wheel cleaner.

I use wheel cleaner 2X/yr before applying sealant. Weekly maintenance entails conventional wash with Duragloss 901 prior to rinseless washing the rest of the car.

When I wash it consists of using mothers wheel cleaner on the tires and wheels alongside their wheel brushes. I really want to be able to clean the barrells and was considering the Daytona brushes but ya'll recommend the wheel woolies? They look like more of a mop than a brush. How effective are they?

I really like the Daytona's! I haven't experienced the slinging that others have around here. When I break the shaft on the Daytona's (which will happen) I plan on replacing them with the Woolies based on reviews. As far as cleaners are concerned, I only use a wheel cleaner on the tires or prior to sealant. My vehicles get washed weekly so there is no buildup that needs harsh chemicals on the wheels themselves.

CG HoneyDew is my maintenance wash of choice.

Seems to work well with Gilmour Foamaster.

I use another bucket for wheel cleaning with apc in it and If the wheel are really bad I use Sonax wheel cleaner too. I never use my wash bucket for wheel cleaning.

Just make sure you are careful with products and PPE - wheel cleaners and APCs are not friendly to the skin and you could quickly find yourself with dermatitis if you don't wear gloves if doing as you suggest.

I cleaned my wheels up pretty good and put a sealant on them. So after washing I'll use my brushes with the car wash soap. If it needs heavier scrubbing I'll spray on some opc and iron x etc.

Been doing this for years Sonax is a very safe wheel cleaner and most apc are safe. I always where gloves when detailing and have never heard of anyone getting dermatitis from using apc or Sonax wheel cleaner.

Is that the sonax bleeding cleaner? It contains a skin sensitiser and care should be taken at all times. APCs are typically quite alkaline and this will defat skin as well. Don't confuse safe with safe for repeated skin contact. As long as you wear gloves, it is OK but many forum users are not pros and will totally ignore things like this. Working in the chemical manufacturing industry, we hear endless stories of people who take safe products and user them not as intended and, every now and again, someone ends up suffering. So it is important to highlight the potential risks when recommending the use of chemical products in a manner not specified by the supplier.

Good tip mate .

Before i even wet the paint to wash i spray my wheels and tires with OPC let set for a sec or two and then come back with a bucket of carwash. Dip my MF and tire brush in the carwash. Use the brush on tires and MF on the wheels. Then use the same soap to wash the wheels wells, frame, upper control arms and basically anything i can reach without removing the wheels. Dump water out, rinse and clean bucket and fill with DG902 and a grit guard and wash the paint.

Are the wheel woolies really better(build quality/effectiveness)??
