I have been trying for a month to clean the wheels on the family car without any luck. I have tried Maguiers Ultimate wheel cleaner, Hot Rims, and a wide variety of chemical guys products. I have also tried some rim polish.

I believe that this is a result of snow melth that they put on the roads during the winter time. Is this something that iron remover would get rid of? Or is there another product you would recommend to help clean these wheels up.

The wheel does look cleaner overall, but those spots still look the same. I tried some dilluted paste then concetrated pasted on a couple of areas.

Are those spots on the surface or are they etched into the wheel?

From the picture it looks like something ate into the finish.
The surface is smooth and there is no other damage I can tell visibly besides the spots which leads me to be lieve that its not etched in.

That looks like oxidation from the finish getting defeated. Saw a similar condition on some old ET wheels that a cat sprayed on during winter storage. The rims were fried.

If a fallout remover reacts, but the spots remain, I don't think there is much hope. Did you use the metal polish with a power tool of some kind, or by hand?

Try Diet Coke & 0000 steel wool. 00 steel wool would probably work even better, but don’t forget the Diet Coke. Fill up a spray bottle full of it and spray it like you would a wheel cleaner and get to scrubbing by hand.

Make sure to give us an update.

It's so lovely that a beverage meant for human consumption can be a powerful wheel cleaner, too.

Isn't that a clearcoated wheel? Why are you guys suggesting abrasive products like steel wool and Barkeeper's Friend? IMO he should be using a paint polish.

On the "family car"? I guess it could be, but it could also be a GM "high-polish clear". Looks an awful lot like a 2008 CTS wheel to me

I’m pretty sure thems is chrome wheels we’re lookin at, I’m sure enough that I’m willing to bet $25 they are.lol.

And if they are, I’m willing to double down and say that my advice about the Diet Coke will work and restore them back to a mirror shine.

Lmk and we can exchange Cashapp or Venmo to send the money. 2 bets $25 each. Open to any reputable member on here. [offer not available to noobs]

It seems like my attempt to draw attention to this seems to have backfired.lol.

Where the heck is OP?

Buddy, you are wasting your time on these wheels. Nothing you do short of wetsanding and then polishing is going to get you anywhere
Either learn to live with it or go buy new wheels. The only other alternative would be a salvage yard or eBay if your trying to stay oem
