Wheel Sealants

Greetings,

I have a 2006 BMW 330xi and I have a BIG problem with break dust. I am constantly cleaning break dust from my wheels. It seems as though everytime I go around the corner, I accumulate more breakdust.

I have tried Optimum OS and Megs NXT2.0. Nothing seems to help repel the break dust.

I would greatly appreciate any advise.

One way is to stop the brake dust in the first place. Ag sells a product
called Keen Wheels that fits inside the wheels and stops the dust.

Kleen Wheels Dust Shields, kleen wheels, tire dust shields, brake dust, stop brake dust

Poorboys Wheel Sealant is nice. I also have DP Wheel Glaze and like it too.

DP Wheel Glaze cleans and protects all types of wheels! Durable wheel polymer wax coating protects wheels from brake dust adhesion and corrosion.

Thanks for the info.

I am a little leary of the Kleen Wheels, as BMW might void out any warranty issues if they are installed.

Maybe I will try the PB Wheel Sealant, since I love their other products.
 
I do love the Poorboys. I use a lot of their products and like them all.
 
Agree with PoorBoy's.

But the real fix is not to own a German Car :)

All German Cars have brake dust problems, due to the pads they are required to use (German Law). When you replace your brake pads go for a ceramic pad as they will dust less.

Damn! Is BMW that anal? Check with BMW and I bet they'll try and sell you their $199.99 set of dust covers. Those covers work great and they have different styles to fit depending on rim oem rim style.
 
Agree with the previous post about German brake pads.

Unfortunately they are of a softer compound which stops well in colder climates but dusts like crazy.

A ceramic compound pad would in part cut down on that problem to where it would take 2-3 weeks tobdevelop the same amount of dust you do now in 2-3 days.

Sorry I don't have any insight on keeping them clean.

I do remember one of the techs telling me that when he had my car up on a lift. I will see if they offer the dust covers.

I think cake Daddy is refering to " those" being the ones AG carrys. I looked at the application chart and they are very model specific and wheel specific. I would check with the BMW dealer and see if they say the aftermarket covers would void any warranty. I think not. There are laws that prevent them from making you use their brand of parts. The thing I would be most interested in are researching the aftermarket covers I was considering for performance and effectiveness issues. Search the forum for threads on the covers AG carries.

I am going to call my BMW Dealer in the morning. I will let you know what they tell me.

I will also research the covers that AG carries.

I have had good luck with the Wheel Wax brand, easy to use and last a long time. It smells great too.
 
I find the specialized wheel sealants don't give me any more protection then a regular paint sealant. If you're really getting a lot of brake dust I would change your brake pads. I like to use Duragloss 501 or Klasse AIO on wheels. Both have good cleaning ability and hold up better the other products I have tried.
 
It not just the Germans, My Wife's IS 250 is bad also. Always the front of course but even with Wheel Wax or Wheel Glaze they have to be cleaned weekly.

It's not the car it's the brake pads. Changing to a low dust brake pads really makes a difference.

I have to agree with you Gary, a good paint sealant works just as well as Wheel Wax or most of the other specialized waxes for wheels. After all, all the wheels I own are painted and clear coated just like the body panels so it seems logical that they would work just as well on wheels.
