When to retire microfiber towels?

When do you guys retire microfiber towels...or transition them from paint work to lesser (wheels, etc) tasks? Is it based on them staining, maybe losing their softness, or just turn them over automatically over time?

For me, downgrade when they loose softness, become worn, contaiminated and debris cannot be 100% removed.

After they are used for wiping off grease.

when they also start to lint badly, they get used for something that's not important and then tossed...
