So many different brands of backing plates for the PC 7424 DA. Is there really much of a difference (other than HF) in backing plates. The 5" plates seem to run from ~$11 up to ~$25.

Surely there's a difference, but, is the worth the jump to double the price to use as a weekend warrior? Just for my personal use. No family, no neighbors, no friends.... too old to do anyone's car but mine :)

Which 5" backing plate do you guys recommend considering the above parameters?

Its always a good idea to match the same plate/pad together from the same manufacturer as the hook 'n loop is designed to work together.

Did you just used the ClearKote glaze for the swirls or did you use some polishes?

I would go with one that had cooling vents, or holes.

Over the course of polishing, heat is the enemy against pads.

Heat accelerates the depletion of life.

It also makes the pad softer.

Keeping a pad cool is key, and holes really help.

So fork over the extra cash for a quality plate.

I love the Meguiar's plates.

I prefer them thin and dense.

THANK YOU...... I should have asked long ago. Now I've got several of "not the best choice" solid lesser expensive backing plates. *sigh*
I guess I'll get the Meguiar's whenever I order some more goodies.
Very much appreciate the feedback.

I just received my PC7424XP and I was told to purchase the PC 5 inch backing plate because it had cooling holes. I was also told not to use the 5 inch yellow plate that was shipped with the PC. Was I correct in order the PC backing plate?

Feed back please

As I mentioned above, you should match the plate to the pads you are using. So if you are using Lake Country pads then use the LC plate. Or Buff 'N Shine plate/pads. Or Meguiar's plate/pads.

if i was to order a new 5" DA backing plate, this would be my choice...

A couple of years back, Mike Stoops (over on MOL) did a great write up on the differences 'tween BPs and pads and how they interact.

Do a search over at MOL...worth the look see.
