Hi,

Which backing plate do you recommend for 6.5" Hydro Tech pads? I want to use my Flex 3401 having a 5.5" BP. Should I or not? I'm not familiar with the HT pads have been using
CSS pads all the time.
Thanks.
Johny

I don't have a Flex but the size pads you are considering and the size backing plate you have should be compatible.

From AutoGeek store:

"Like Lake Country's other premium foam pads, Lake Country Hydro-Tech 6.5 Inch Foam Pads are made with high quality hook and loop backing. The pads work with a 5 or 6 inch hook and loop backing plate. The pads' size is perfect for a dual action or random orbital polisher."

I like the HT pads. They finish down really well, even Cyan. On some softer paints they can be finicky but for the most part the HT line is a great, easy to use lineup.

I don't see any problem, it's only 15% surface area overhang. It's not like you're using a 6.5" pad on a 3" BP, that may fly off.

Back-plate for car polishing isn't as critical compare to other types of sanding/polishing work such as stone, wood, or other hard material. Polishing car, you don't put a whole lot of pressure on it anyways, you just let the compound and the surface of the pad work it. So, overhang is acceptable.

Thanks Nicholas and Trey T for your answer.
