I have used the Eagle one nanotechnology in the past, but I am curious which are the best brands: Mother's, Meguires, Eagle One, or Griot's?
(for general, personal detailing)
Any thoughts? Are there better?
Feed back please

There are tons of brands out there and many of them have better products in various categories than the brands listed. Go to the Autogeek store and look at all the options, there are tons of them. Other brands to look at are Zaino, Zymol, Swissvax, Migliore, Chemical Guys, Adam's, Hi-temp, Sonus, Croftgate, etc etc etc.

I think you will get a lot of different answers to that question. All of the lines that AG carries are quality products. My 2 cents: Optimum, Dura Gloss and Ultima are my favorite lines and comprise the majority of my products.

The Optimum and Ultima lines are not readily available over the counter though,Dura Gloss can be purchased at Car Quest and NAPA Auto Parts, something to consider.

Take advantage of the samples that AG offers and try out some different products to see what you like. We all have our favorites so what works for me may not please you.

Well, my top two brands are Ultima and Finish Kare, but as everyone else stated there is alot to choose from. Perhaps start off with asking yourself what your expectations are..is it durability?,ease of use?, cost of the product, wax or sealant? I chose my brands based on durabilty first, then ease of use, then looks. After a car is well prep MOST waxes or sealants well look great anyway. My list of best brands may not be anyone elses but thats okay because its subjective..eventually you find what you like best.

There are as many answers and just as much dedication to said answers as if you had asked what dimensions are best for a lady.

Some are better than others and depending on your OCD level of car care, what you like may not be what I like.

If you figure out how picky you want to be (daily driver vs show car) you can narrow down your question which will make it easier to find an answer. I hear the Swisswax for well over a thousand bucks a pop is awsome but until I have my Buggatti, I will have to take others words for it.

Spend some time on these pages and look at the before and after shots that people post and look at the products they used (although skill adds a huge percent) and start your "stuff to try" list.

I agree. These are probably my tops as well. Definitely Ultima! For polishes I like megs 105, 205, menzerna 85RD, wolfgang TSR. I like a couple of the 303 products also.

First welcome.

You may find that some products work better on certain vehicles than others. Paint hardness varies between car manufaturers and often year of manufacture too. Color of paint may hide mistakes or techique more than others. Some folks have troubles with certain products because of humidity so what works great in a dry desert environment might be terrible in the middle of summer in the Carolinas.

Sometimes technique can make a huge difference in how a product works for some people and if you are just starting out, certain products may be easier to use than others. Note: I write easier to use rather than better or best. Are you doing things manually or do you have power tools?

I wouldn't be too worried about trying just about any of the products offered by AG. Customer service is superb and they stand behind everything they sell. Just like others responding before me, what I prefer may be very different from what you find best.

If you let us know where you live (environment) and what year, make, model, color, condition of the vehicles that you plan to detail and any particular product characteristic that is important (like durabability, finish look, value vs performance, etc.), a number of the guys and gals here should be able to give you a shorter list of products that should work well for you. Good luck!

Personally I really like:
Polish: Menzerna products (powergloss, nano polish, power finish 85rd, SIP)
LSP: Wolfgang (Fuzion / Deep Gloss Paint Sealant)
Clay: Optimum No-Rinse as clay lube, Pinnacle Poly clay
Cleaner: Meg's APC+, DP pad cleaner,
QD: FK425
Trim: 303 Aerospace, PB World Trim Restore.

I guess I have no loyalties

All of the products that have been listed are great, but research and read reviews and not to repeat but this was a good point; ask yourself what you want from your products and go from there. It is VERY easy to get caught in "The Flavor of the Month" and before you know it, you have dropped $500 on just wax and have only used each once. Which there is nothing wrong with that-I am VERY guilty of it but I just felt it needed to be said. Anyway, AG carries great products and just about anything you pick will be great. But if you are not technical in the way you view each product and OCR in a sense, the majority of the products may look the same to you. Its really all about what you are looking for.

PS-AG has free shipping on orders over $95 lol!

Happy Detailing!

basically 95% of the products on Autogeek are above and beyond the performance to get your car looking in tip top shape. To give some other perspectives here is what I like

- DP (Detailers Pride) - i'm really liking the amount of product for the price of the DP line. Any product I have tried work very well and this line is very under rated. If I was to start off new , I would probably just pick up this entire product line for just about everything besides my sealant and wax.

- 1z Einszett. Fantastic line of products with incredible durability. That are safe to use and very user friendly. Its almost impossible to make a mistake using there Glanz Wax sealant hybrid. Apply, wait 20 minutes than wipe off. When it comes to interior car care, 1Z is superior to everything else imo.

- Sonax. Another product line that is under rated. Pricing is somewhat up there, but its an imported product that is new to distributors, and a new line of products. For interior care, this is taking the place of my 1z products slowly but surely. There leather foam and dashboard cleaner/sealer , as well as there carpet and upholstery surfactant are my favorites. If you have a german car, these products were designed to be used specifically with the new synthetic soft touch interiors.

This kit right here is imo, some of the best car care available
SONAX Cockpit Kit, interior car care, dashboard cleaner, interior cleaner, rubber and vinyl, leather care

and for a wax that is incredibly easy to use, this kit here is also worthwhile to look at
SONAX Wax Kit, SONAX carnauba wax, car wax, best car wax, auto wax

- Optimum - an amazing lineup. There ONR, instant detail, spray wax, tire shine, are all great products that work easily and fast. If you are limited for time on your car care, this is the product line you want to look into. The incredible thing about the optimum product line is that there products can be used on just about every surface of the car.

Hope that helps, those are some of my favorites in Autogeek. When I want to enjoy fantastic results, my favorite product line is Wolfgang.

great post with some very GOOD points. The product that Autogeek has chosen to sell will all give you superior results to your average product.

One thing for sure...

If the products work, that is if they do what they're supposed to do, then it comes down to the person, their skill level, experience and technique...

In my position, I like to try "system" approaches to projects, haven't decided which product lines I'm going to use for all the different things I'm going to do with this project, but as this project unfolds everyone will get to see...

1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass - 28,948 Original Miles

Lots of new pictures added to the second page...

Action Items Include...

  • Doing a waterless wash because it's a good practice NOT to introduce water to classic cars if you don't have to as it's a rust issue.
  • Going to restore the vinyl top, it's all there, intact and in good shape but it's dry and lifeless looking... and 41 years old...
  • Going to try to undo the botched sanding and buffing work done to the repaint
