Which polishes and compounds need a primed pad and which ones don't? And with the ones that need a primed pad, do you use the polish/compound you're using or a spritz of quick detailer?

I prime my pads when using Menzerna products and Sonax Perfect Finish 4/6. Meguiars 105 seems to not like primed pads cause it seems to cake more.

keep useing the same polish/ compound just before you begin draw a x on your pad with polish/ compound of choice then rub it in then put four small dots then a light spray of quick deatiler/ spray wax of choice then proceed after each panel though be sure to clean the pad throughly then do the process again till car is done

I tend to fully cover (Prime ) the pad when using SMAT products, and just use the X pattern or dots when priming with DAT products.

With DAT products I find it very easy to have the pad over saturated after a few panels ...so I like starting out with a pad that is not fully covered with product. I do spray a shot of detail spray to prevent dry pad syndrome.

With SMAT I find myself using much less product as I proceed from panel to panel, so loading the pad up initially with full coverage means using less and less as I proceed. SMAT products tend to go to work much faster so you don't need to keep loading the pad with as much product as you move from panel to panel.

That's been experience using the two types of polishes.

I prime the entire pad then wait 5 minutes then add a little product and begin.
Waiting a few moments allows the product to soak in some so no sling of any kind.
I prime when using 105 but not if I use v34, I do however hit it with a must of DS spray just once, after that I only use the v34.
IMO the v34 is one of the easiest compounds to work with, low dusting ,spreads well and wipes off so easy.
It cuts well just not as good as 105, if the car isn't too bad I go with the v34 or UC.
