I see that many people use dawn to do a complete strip. I understand that it comes with it's cautions around rubber/seals, but is there anything else that is recommended?

Do a Google search for Citrus wash & gloss, or Citrus wash & clear.

I was looking for something like this too. Chemical Guys is the only one I know of really. Should you use this before you start defect removal or when you put on a wax/sealant or what?

Just use an ounce or 2 of APC in your wash bucket. No need for a specific stripping shampoo as it is not always effective and IMO an unnecessary addition.

APC=All purpose cleaner

I still like using dawn mixed with a little boutique wash (like DP, WG, Pinnicle, etc.) to soften the water.

Dawn may strip and carnauba wax layer, but never seen it remove a fully cured sealant. I find a dedicated paint cleansing lotion the best choice "after" washing.

I mix dawn and optimum power clean up in my bucket and call it a day
