What are the best options for removing white latex house paint (over-spray) from black General Motors paint? The specks are very small and widely scattered. My first inclination would be trying a clay bar, but I thought I'd get other opinions from like experiences. I do have some meg's 80-83 and a PC-DA.

Thank you.

Clay works best IMO for overspray. I had good luck with Stoner's bug and tar too.

Removing Latex Paint –
  • A paint decontamination system (ValuGard's A-B-C system http://www.autoint.com)
  • Detailers clay (Automagic’s Magic Clay) both red and blue grades
  • Plastic razor blade to mechanically 'chip' the overspray
  • Citrus based detergents (P21S Total Auto Wash) may help; be sure to allow plenty of dwell time.
  • Solvents - Dwell time is important. Start mild with (Prepsol or ValuGard's "New Car Prep")
  • A combination of the plastic blade or detailers clay and a solvent, be patient and work small areas when practical. The painted surfaces are frequently easier than anticipated, however the rubber and vinyl trim pieces may take more time / patience.

Painters generally use denatured alcohol to remove latex paint.

Thank you all for the great recommends. Fortunately it's not bad over-spray at all. Tiny specs here and there. Obviously being on black = amplified.

Great help, thanks again.

Clay is the way to go! It'll take you a long time, trust me, I had to do it on my black Dodge!
