Hey guys, might be selling my 2011 Milan Premier and looking to get a 2010 or 2011 Maxima. I've long been a fan of these cars and I figure "why not go for it?"
I'm curious as to the likes and dislikes of the car as a whole, and for those who've worked on them, how is it? Theres a lot of curvature and crevices in the cabin it looks like. I know to use the paint and product chart as a reference point, a tool... anyways, just a little feedback on your experiences is what I'm wanting. Maybe even somebody to talk me out of the purchase, but I don't know that that'll happen!

I wasn't quite the detailing geek that I am now, but i don't remember any real detail issues. Bought the wife a used 98 and loved it enough to buy myself a 95. Traded the 95 for an odyssey when the family came along and I drove the 98 to 265k miles. Replaced a front drive axle and some other minor work under the hood - pretty easy access to most everything. The cars were great. Felt very solid on the road and handled like a sports car. I drove 100mi 5 days a week and always enjoyed the comfort and power. I went to the dealer 2 yrs ago to buy a used 09 but found a nicer ride for less money. Still highly recommend the maxima.

Nissans just don't seem to have that great of a reputation for quality, they seem to be behind Honda, Toyota and Mazda. All of my buddy's are into cars and noone ever talks about them as far as a future purchase or something they like even, other than the GT-R.

Not sure if you need a 4 door or not but can I suggest an Accord coupe w/ the V6? Need a sedan, the new Mazda 6 is THE car to get without a doubt!!

I like the Maxima's, but for the HP it is pretty slow :(. Still nice regardless.
Few years ago while in college i worked in Nissan as sales, never sold a Maxima.

Still a Nissan!

Looks like the paint could use some love too!

That site has some RIDICULOUS cars for sale! On both ends of the ridiculous spectrum from terds to hey want to buy this 1000+HP viper?

:props:

We've always wondered about the Maxima and what segment it fits into. You've got the Sentra (Civic/Corolla/Focus) then the Altima (Accord/Camry/Fusion) and then the Maxima ( ). You could almost make a case for it being in the same leavgue as say an Acura TL but that's what Infiniti is for, right?

IMO, Max are pretty nice cars and I like them but there are some enthusiast who mock it for the CVT tranny. Some people barely notices it while for others, the CVT needs a bit to get used to.

Drove a 2010 Max SE for a day it handled very well but being a SE, it had the sports tuned suspensions and it was a bit rough on bumpy roads.

The 3.5 v6 is known for going through a lot of sensors. Those cars have a lot of HP and some people say the cvt transmission makes the car feel a lot more sluggish. The maxima sits on the same chassis as the Altima, just a different body.

One thing I thought was pretty cool about the Maxima is that its a large car that you could get with 3 pedals, is a stick still offered?

Since the CVT... I do not think a manual is an option. However, it does come with paddle shifters

I would say Maxima- Azera/Taurus/Charger ?

Not since it got the CVT, which yes it's sluggish and holds the RPM's for a noticeable time. My dads old Sentra had the CVT and once the belt expanded, it was like driving a tractor. The throttle response was very limited in the higher rpm's.

Yeah, the Azera and Taurus make sense, not to mention the Toyota Avalon too, gotta put the all new Impala in there as well, the Charger being RWD, not as much from that aspect but in size, yes. Now, looking at that bunch, well the Azura and Impala look the best IMO, the Avalon a VERY close 2nd, the Taurus is fat and bloated or "dead and bloated" to quote STP, large and bloated on the outside, smallish on the inside compared to the outside. The Taurus does offer Ecoboost 4 and 6's, a NA V6 and AWD, not to mention flexfuel (for what that's worth), the Charger goes a step further with AWD and 6 and 8's and the 8 spd auto, better interior looks that are roomy and functional. The Impala is ALL NEW and is the comeback player of the century, look where that car has been in its last 2 generations, yeah.....exactly! Its got top level options and a rock solid engine too, no AWD option but makes sense since there's Buick and Caddy for that (BTW the new LaCrosse is STUNNING!) Finally the Azura, a dressed up Sonata but nonetheless is also a stunning ride, lots of features and a good warranty, don't forget its cousin the Cadenza too!

OP, lots of better choices out there, atleast IMO!

I'm not a fan of the CVT either. I had a rental Altima for a week, and while it wasn't a bad car, the CVT made it feel like there was a rubber band in the drive train. Response was suggish and just didn't feel like a car should.

I don't know if it's the same unit, but a friend has had issue with the CVT in his Rogue and I know the new Pathfinder has had issues with that unit as well.

I used to be a huge fan of the Maxima and always wanted one, but when the SE model with the manual transmission went away, so did my interest.

Hey DesertMate, no more stick for the Maxima, no problem, there's a 2014 Mazda 6 with your name on it,wait a little longer and you'll be able to get a diesel too!

Yeah. I like the look of the 6, but it only comes with the 180hp engine and you can only get the manual in the stripped down, bottom trim package.

I currently own a Mazda3 that my daughter is driving. It's been a great car and for one that wasn't built with a focus on performance, it's a great driving car for the enthusiast. I'd expect no less from the 6. However, until they bring back the V6 and give it a manual, I'll pass on putting one in my garage.

If I wasn't dead set on my DD having a manual transmission and wanted an economical sedan, the Mazda6 and Passat would be at the top of my list. They both seem to still have been built with a nod towards a great driving experience.
