Hi,

Can't believe this didn't get the 25k signatures in a day...

Only takes about two minutes to register and sign the petition. Post on other forums you all visit if you want to help out.

Thanks!!

Stop using Homeland Security funds to seize imported vehicles, and change the DOT/EPA exemption to 15 years.

The Department of Homeland Security spends a shockingly disproportionate amount of its budget not on security initiatives, but on customs seizures. In particular, importers of grey-market vehicles have been targeted by monies taxpayers have intended to be used to secure our country against terrorism and terrorist activity. We call upon the Executive Branch to immediately cease this wasteful activity, and furthermore to change the DOT/EPA exemption time on grey-market vehicles from 25 years to 15 years (to match the vehicle regulations of Canada), recognizing that the 25-year rule was enacted due to support from special interests such as Mercedes Benz North America.

the govt honestly needs to change it to 15 years, highly doubtful as they think it will cut down on domestic auto sales which line their pockets....don't expect a petition to do anything in this country, if you had a billion dollars to donate to us govt i'm sure that would change a law. however, i am signing for the petition..doubt it will reach the required signatures in that time unless we flood the forums with it, but most people could care less about importation of japanese vehicles, if it did get passed i would get a 98 celica GT-Four, but closest i could come is buy a vehicle in canada as parts only and tow it over border.......

its not just the exemption laws though. if you've ever spent any time on nissan forums, you can get skylines into the US. sadly, most of them are stolen cars in japan. So with Japan and US relations, the US siezes the skylines and does who knows what with them. and the US owner? They get nothing. So you can go through the work to get the car registered legally, but as soon as the govt finds out it was stolen...o well.

skylines are cool and all but i like being unique, i would rather a gt-four,toyota chaser, nissan pulsar, nissan cefiro stuff like that. yes i know i have a celica but to convert a fwd car into awd is crazy work, rear floor pan is totally different between the gt-four and gt/st. engine is the easy part....soon you will be able to legally import the 89 skyline r32's,and the 91 mr2 turbo(only 91) can be legaly imported, hell even honda civics can be legally imported i believe due to exemption laws, that is why theres a ton of rhd hondas on the streets, that or hondas are just that easy to rhd swap/engine swap.
