Why a DA over a rotary

Still new at this guys, but if a rotary would be faster using bigger pads why do the pros still use a DA & smaller pads?

There are a lot of people who do not want to run the risk of using a rotary. (burning paint) Despite the enormous taboo that rotaries have earned, as long as you have a head on your shoulders and practice good technique, you will do fine with a rotary. However it is much harder to finish with a rotary 100%. That is, no micro marring, buffer trails, etc.. Especially with very soft paints, a DA is just going to make your day easier. :)

Makes sense. Thanks So the 3401 "IS" the way to go?
 
Yeah I don't get the whole "rotaries are the devil" mentality here either. A month ago I was a complete noob at any kind of buffer, DA or rotary. Got my hands on both a DA and rotary.

Rotary is easier and at least 3x faster...hands down. Yes, you have to be careful but thats about it. I also don't understand this idea that you can't finish with a rotary. Its a complete myth IMHO, I finish just fine with rotaries, no holograms, no haze, no micro marring, even after IPA wipe down *shrugs*

Bottom line...buffing an entire car with a DA takes me 6 hours where on a rotary I can have it done in two hours with better results. I'll take the rotary.
 
rotary buffer will always leave holograms behind unless you follow up with a polish, i like the pc better because its so safe and takes out scratches sometimes better then my rotary!!! it all depends on you in the end of the day your car/truck will come out nice using the 2

I''m sorry but i will have to disagree. I know a lot of people who finish well with just a rotary hologram free. :)

I don't know of many pro's that only use a DA. Pro's use the right tool for the job. I use a rotary 97% of the time.
