Will an AIO be sufficient?

I just got a brand new 2019 honda which has soft paint (Dark grey). I have clayed it. Should I use menzerna 3800 polish and then a sealant or an AIO like Blackfire one step or meguiars 3 in 1 wax. I do not see any swirls or marring on the paint. I guess I am wondering if I really need to use a separate polish first (like menzerna 3800) on soft paint which looks in perfect condition, or will an AIO suffice?

Or use the Blackfire AIO, but keep in mind that it’s protection won’t last very long, so you’re going to want to apply a dedicated sealant about 3 weeks after allowing the AIO to stand on its own.

Thanks! But I thought some kind of polishing/cleaning was necessary with a new car?

That’s why my next post suggested the Blackfire AIO.

Not trying to say it’s likely, but keep in mind some paints are really soft, so when you polish your new vehicle with anything for the 1st time, I’d recommend doing a test spot on every panel as you go along because you never know what could be different.

On my 14’ Kia Sorento I found out the hood is impossible to polish with a machine without inducing a bunch of swirls no matter what I tried. [I only tested about 3 different methods and it was only getting worse]

So watch out for that, especially on the hood as I’ve noticed that the paint manufacturers use on the hood is sometimes completely different than the rest of the vehicle.

Btw other than a few test spots I still haven’t polished that Kia Sorento and it still looks like brand new because I’ve protected it since day 1. No polishing needed and it’s white so I’d be able to tell if the paint was dirty.

Polishing a Honda isn't too bad. I polished out my daughter's Honda Fit not too long ago using Blackfire finishing polish and white LC pads. The results were really good.

If it were my car, I'd use a good finishing polish like the Blackfire, Sonax 04/06, or Optimum Hyper Polish and then apply a good sealant. I like AIO's on soft paint, but their lifespan is too short. Using a dedicated sealant will get you many months of protection.

If it was my baby, and I wanted to spoil it, I'd do separate polish and sealing steps.

If I wanted to save time, do some thorough paint cleaning, lightly polish the surface, and lay down some solid protection, I'd use Duragloss 501 and call it a day.

After the AIO top with a good was (Collinite 476, Mekees fast wax, or other favorite wax)

From what I’ve ascertained. If you see no swirls a polish only should be good. No need for “cut”. An all in one would probably work but not needed... I’ve used Adam’s polish and seem to clean well but not much cut (I was looking to remove swirls). Essence is what I’m using to polish next and it seems to be popular nice gloss, leaves a little sio2 on top. Most will top with ceramic coating or sio2 topper but a sealant should work fine.

I have had very good success for HD Speed for a few cars I detail here in the neighborhood. Top with a nice wax, like Pinnacle and you will see great results. HD speed comes off super easy and removes light swirls.

Another quick solution would be to just use something like Collinite 476 or 915. They have some filling capabilities, and although they are not cleaner waxes, based on their solvent smell I have to assume they perform very minor cleaning, so minor to maybe only benefit a clean new car like yours.

Make sure your new car won't benefit from a claying first. And if it doesn't need claying then I like your idea of 3800 and then a sealant. And I'd use Powerlock by Menzerna for the sealant. But there are many good sealants. You could apply the polish by hand if worried about damaging new/soft paint. The 3800 is easy to apply and remove for a polish, and Powerlock is very easy to apply and remove. Have fun!

Here's my take and this is just my take...

If I'm going to do any type of mechanical
decontamination to paint then I'm going
to already be planning on doing at least
ONE MACHINE POLISHING STEP afterwards.

This is because I want to insure that if any
marring from the mechanical decontamination
process happens to the paint that I remove it and
restore the maximum gloss and clarity to the finish.

That's my criteria but no one else has to follow it.
I just follow Mike’s criteria; makes everything
else that follows: go so Easy-Peazy.

Whenever I clay, I always follow-up with,
(at the very least), a very mild polish.

•Also, RE: “can’t see any marring”:
-A "swirl-finder" light source can be a
godsend in these circumstances.

“If any marring occurs from the mechanical decontamination”

OP indicated there’s no marring on the paint, therefore he’s ok to proceed with or without a dedicated polish step.

It’s actually easier to skip the polishing step, unless you’re going to come over and do the polishing for him? Lol.

I have a white vehicle and am not overly concerned about corrections or marring ... just want it bright and shiny.

Also I'm old

and lazy

DG 501 with Aquawax and now P&S Beadmaker does fine by me :)
