According to another member here, Porter Cable was bought out recently. Here's his post:

"Porter Cable was bought by Black and Decker Dewalt last fall. I bought a orbital 7424 for a great price too. They are closing out porter Cable tools everywhere so buy them while you can. Great tools and parts should be avalible still. Dewalt will be coming out with their version of this later this year. Got this from my Dewalt sales rep. Drew"

This seems to imply that the PC line of DA sander/polishers may be discontinued and replaced with something else. Does anyone at Autogeek have the inside scoop?

Thanks

Awww, no! Dang monopolies! Is this true, AG folks? You've gotta know if it is so by now.
Pulleeezzz???

well u can always get the altenative. A craftsmen buffer or one from walmart.... works just as good

LOL just kidding yea atleast we can get them for cheap and there will be similar products in the future maybe even with improvments

Cyclo rules anyway. We use both (PC and Cyclo) along with a Dewalt rotary and the Cyclo is very strong and makes short work of polishing with a D/A.

that sucks!!! im going out tomorrow and buying a gross of p/cs!!!:p

Hey we happen to have a few pallets, give me a call! :p

considering mine is over 5 years old without issue, I think there will be plenty to use for a long time to come.

A little off topic but the Cyclo was mentioned

Is the Cyclo a DA Polisher?? Is there anywhere on AG I can bone up on it?

So what will that mean? Black and Decker will be selling polishers/sanders?

Hmmm... I did a little research:
" * 2004 - Black & Decker announced the purchase of the Tools Group from Pentair, Inc. (NYSE: PNR). The Tools Group, included the Porter-Cable, Delta, DeVilbiss Air Power, Oldham Saw, and FLEX businesses."

I also saw the SEC filings for Black & Decker on that transaction in 2004 from Pentair Tools Group. Also if you go here:
Porter-Cable - About Us - Overview - History

You see the company history of Porter Cable and it's intentions going forward.

In my opinion, PC has a strong brand name. I highly doubt the PC brand is going to go away. I just think what is happening with Lowes, it maybe flushing out inventory of PC to make room for more product and/or just discontinue it's relationship with the PC brand. Which is common with retailers.
