Will steam and Goo Gone damage paint or PPF?

I need to remove some HOV carpool lane stickers from my car. I found a video online that suggests using a clothes steamer to loosen and remove the top layer of the sticker, and then apply Goo Gone with a clean microfiber to remove the rest.

Will using steam or Goo gone in this way damage paint or PPF?

IME, things tend to -stick- differently on PPF. Even road debris and such on a LSP' PPF sticks tenaciously at times and I find I need to use paint cleaner polish to remove it...


I would start with steamer and try to remove the sticker in one clean pass. You want it hot but not that hot...hot enough to peel but also cold enough that it stays with the sticker...
Sometimes, as you peel. if glue seems to remain more - I would start a new peel from another edge to see if the glue pulls cleaner away with the sticker.
Then with whatever residue you have left, I'd use anything from 3M Adhesive remove, Tarminator which should remove the rest. Then clean and rinse that PPF THOROUGLY and obviously LSP it once done

Seems like it could be similar to Griot's tar & sap remover, which would diminish LSPs.

I would find out who the manufacturer of the PPF is, contact their support, and see if they have a specific product. A lot of PPFs have built-in scratch-resistant properties and require specific products. Not following those instructions can cause damage to the protection, yellowing, or void the warranty.
