I have been tossing around the idea of getting into windshield chip/crack repair as an add-on service. My wife's Uncle has been doing it for 25+ years and is willing to teach me the in's and out's. It's about $1K for a good set of tools and resins. I think it would be a great investment and an additional profit center.

Anyone else here currently offering this service? If so, what have your experiences been?

A lot of insurance companies offer this service free to their customers without making a claim. I suppose the strategy is that it saves them money in the long run (especially on low deductibles) and increases customer satisfaction. I'm under the impression this is sort of an industry standard now days, but that's just from what I learned shopping around and asking questions. Might factor into your bottom line a bit.

The insurance companies have to pay somebody to do the work...? Right? That'd be me. I would just submit the charge to the insurance company. As the contractor, I would be responsible for verifying insurance coverage, performing the repair to industry standards and submitting an invoice to the insurance company.

If you can get your foot in the door with several insurance companies/agencys, and provide a mobile service, I could see you eeeking out a decent income

As far as just providing it to your existing clients, you would be better off subbibg that work
