Windshield sealant - help

Hi guys, my windshield is in rough shape. So many scratches and no matter how many coats of wax I put on it (I've done 3) the scratches and nicks from stones blind me when the sun is shining directly on the glass. Is there any worthwhile product to perhaps "polish" the scratches out? Or maybe a filler? Thanks
 
CarPro CeriGlass. If you search around a bit you will find several articles and writes ups discussing how to remove defects in automotive glass with CeriGlass which is a cerium-oxide based polish.
 
Not going against Nicholas suggestion.But if money isn't a promblem 300.00 bucks and a new windshield.you will rubbing to death with that method,and may inflict more damage.Remember it's glass hard as a rock and to diminish all or some defects will require a day plus the cost of materials and a whole lotta work.But if your finances don't allow then try.In some states glass is covered under your policy.If it's a hazard to see may want to try the insurance route first good luck.
 
Oh well, guess I'll have to live with it haha. Grrrr
 
Call your insurance,in some states it's not chargeable.meaning they won't count that against you.I would try what do you have to loose.

IME Safelight glass sucks. Cheap glass that scratches and pitts easily. I guess it depends how picky you are about the vehicle...

I've had 2 BMW windshields replaced with PPG by a local "certified" (whatever that actually means) PPG dealer and both were flawless...

PPG is a few extra bucks, but nowhere near factory prices...

In the other hand, someone skilled with Ceri Glass and Car Pro rayon glass pads could likely repair your windshield 90-100% in a few hours.

That's exactly what I would recommend. Except round here, you can get a decent replacement windshield for about $100.
 
I just called a local glass shoppe. He told me he could install a replacement windshield for my Cadillac for $120. Not bad at all.

There's some great advice here ..... cost of repair versus replacement.

Certainly if you are willing to put in the time and effort, you should see at least slightly better results using something like Ceriglass. I believe true glass polishes contain cerium oxide. Diamonite use to offer one also.

Now that said, what would be the cost and outcome of replacement ?? How much better will the new glass be or offer, and will / could there be other issues in making this choice. Ex. One time a dealership cracked our windshield and had to replace it for free. Great ...NOPE ! The company that replaced it did not seal it properly and we always had a whistle sound at high speeds. Likely the "glue" and South Florida heat failed to seat it properly.
 
Replacement screens now for cars with vision systems and HUD, are very expensive, over 2000aud for a replacement Mercedes screen !!
I polish mine at least annually with Ceriglass gets rid of 80% of the marks...
If I come to replace it will be through insurance as a prepaid extra.. (60$ up front, unlimited coverage thereafter)...
