I know I'm a bit early but...

I live in NE PA. It is currently stinking hot here but the end of August has arrived. I'm starting to think about winter prep.

My car is a daily driver completely exposed to the elements 24/7. I was wondering what sealant is going to give me the best durability through the winter.

This is what is currently in my arsenal:
Collinite 845
Blackfire Wet Diamond
FK Hi-Temp
WDGPS
Duragloss 601/105
Opti-Seal
UPGP
DP Poli-coat

What are your thoughts to give me the best durability?
How cold is too cold to apply something like AW or OCW?

Picking from that list (nice list by the way) I would clay the car to make sure I have a nice clean surface to bond to apply a coat of DP-Poli-Coat and top it 12 hours later with a nice thin coat of Collinite 845. That is two great products known for awesome durability....Then take some pictures and post them here along with a running report on how it's holding up!:buffing:

Thanks. I think you are right. Since there will be 24/7 exposure, I think my situation would make a good test. Maybe different products on different panels and a full blown write up with pics.

I'd watch that with interest!:dblthumb2:

I also live in a harsh climate. Lots of salt on the roads. From my experience it's better to leave a car outside then to bring it in or out of a heated garage.... And the next best thing you can do is wash the car at least once a week.... Any wax or sealer will do but nothing beats a good wash. Just my.02$.

I keep reading great things about 845 and am planning a trip to Michigan in Oct and want to prep a friends car for winter and was thinking 845 but love your post about Poli-Coat cuz I've read about that too. Going to follow this but it seems like this is the way to go. Thank You!

For winter durability from your current products I would go for multiple coats of the FK 1000p or Duragloss combo...

Another question, do you think that WGDGPS would compare to the Poli-Coat as an under coat to the 845?

Absolutely! might even be better?:dunno:......one of my cars will be testing the two for durability comparisons this winter.Im the MAN

Awesome! Am looking forward to the comparison results Was asking because I have WGDGPS and wouldn't have to buy the Poli-Coat (though i wouldn't mind having it on the shelf).

Duragloss with any of the Collinite waxes. Couple light coats even on door jambs and exposed seams. Last year I got 5 months of protection, and it was still beading.

I live in NE PA also and 845 has been my "winter wax" top coat for a few years with great results as long as the prep work is all done properly! A good QD after the limited chances we get to wash in the winter also helps boost the 845!

I hear ya. I'm thinking that I will use my local self serve car wash this winter. I will take with me a couple buckets with grit guards, some wash, what is basically a microfiber wash mitt on a stick that I found at Kmart, and a long handle wheel brush. The long handled media will keep my hands dry and warm. I figure anything above freezing and I can wash.

I believe you could apply DG 601 before any of the sealants named except UPGP and maybe 845. I dont know if 845 has polymers.. I want to enjoy fall a little first before I ponder winter!

Winter, whats that, we don't get any of that in Fla!

I was wondering how well 601 plays with other sealants. Time for more research...

If you use any high quality sealant and wax you'll protect that investment. As difficult as it sounds your best approach is to wash and maintain the finish regularly.

If I can't wash it at home I'll mix up a bucket of car wash and hot water then head for the nearest manual car-wash. I use the high pressure wand and hose it down with high pressure water then wash with the solution I brought. Once I get home I'll park it in the garage and spend some time drying it and giving it a once over with Optimum Spray Wax.

Sealants

Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Paint Sealant
DP Poli-Coat Paint Sealant
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0

Wax

Collinite 845
DP Max Wax
Pinnacle Souverän

I like the wash mit on a wheel brush idea! I may "borrow" that !! I usually use big rubber gloves with a wash mit on top!

You are missing out on sleigh riding, building snowmen, a white Christmas. You don't know what your missing!

As long as you are ok with back beaking shoveling and sliding your car into a row of parked cars :xyxthumbs:

Without any season changes you''ll never really know how well some of the products you sell work year round, other then word of mouth comments from forum members.
But I'm really jealous of you folks in the warmer climates. This summer was one of the warmest in recent memory up here in NJ. As far as the original topic goes, you can't beat Collinite 845 for winter protection. It's been around for years and people still rave about the protection they get and how it last so much longer then many of the high priced sealents/waxes. I'll be ordering a new bottle myself for this winters protection.
