Simple question here; that is, can wool pads be used with DA polishers? I have a Megs G110 and want more cut than a yellow foam pad will give me. Thanks!

Now im not an expert, but my Porter Cable DA came with a LC purple wool pad(though ive never used it). So "Yes" you can use a wool pad on a DA. I do know that if you do use it, you will be going through the process of smoothing the surface afterwards, for example ( first the wool pad- then either an orange or yellow- then white/green- last blue or red for wax/sealent.

In simple terms a wool pad will put its own marks into the paint, but it is meant to be follow up with a polish on foam

Never tried it before, but I would leave the wool pads for the rotary buffers. ;)

Are wool pads supposed to shed their fibers? I only used one once with a rotary on the boat, and fibers were going everywhere.

dang! a yellow pad is pretty aggressive though! i've made quick work of some pretty nasty scratches with my PC, optimum compound and a 4" yellow CCS pad.

They do when they are new, after a few uses they stop. You can always wash it before use, which I will be doing from now on.

I thought about just going ahead and buying a yellow pad just to have around in case of major problems. The LC book talks about how it should only be used on really old cars or serve oxidation. In my case i just have a stubborn mark here and there, so im assuming it would be alright to use on my car. Its got a pretty hard CC so maybe i might need to step up. An orange however does do a nice job with some SIP ;)

From what I've read wool seems to work better via rotary. Have you considered a small 4'' pad? Or maybe a more aggressive compound. Which leads me to ask what are you using? and what are you trying to remove?

First of all, the car is black and a Acura at that, so I believe that the paint might be somewhat succeptable to scratches and pitting to begin with. The most irritating thing is the front end pitting that may be more than compounding will help anyway.

I am using SIP with a yellow pad on a G110 at speed 6. I have been following that up with PINN AFP with an orange pad then a white pad. LSP is DP Max Wax.

Actually, the car looks good enough now that two people at traffic lights have had me roll down the window so they could tell me how great it looks, so it must be pretty sporty; however, I look at some of the glamour shots on the forum and realize how much better it could be.

My problem is probably nothing that several years of experience and many thousands of dollars won't cure! :D

Thats my suggestion too, smaller pad..go with aggressive compound Megs #105 or the new #205 both have taken out some serious scratches and defects on several cars that I have done.

I have never really heard of anyone using a wool pad with a DA. The foam wool 3.5" pads work well. The Acura has soft paint I would really take caution using a yellow pad with SIP on the Acura. I like the others would suggest the 4" pads, blue, black, white maybe orange. Try SIP with a black 4" pad first if you need more then a white 4" pad. What polishes do you have on hand?

Ive only used them on a rotary buffer, never a DA

I keep hearing about these purple wool pads from LC. Can someone post a link? I searched the store here and couldn't find anything purple.
Thanks!

so i have question. Ive got some marks on the lip spoiler on the back of my Audi and i cant get them out with SIP w/orange pad. The car is black so would i bet takin a risk using the wool pad( i have a DA too). I dont have a yellow pad at hand, but would you say that might be the best way to go in term of correcting it??

I would try M105 and some 4" pads or the 3.5" Purple Foam Woll pad on the spoiler

The 3.5 purple foamed wool pads work great on the pc. They also finish up very nicely and you can go straight to your finishing polish and pad with the exception of very strong compounds.

when you say with the exception of very strong compounds, so you mean not to use Menzerna Super Intense polish with it?
