Hey guys, I got a quick question..... My brother in law has a Chevy express work van, while I was talking to my sister I told her to tell her friends at work (mostly my clients) that I would do a wash and wax on their cars for $40 or $50 bucks to get the salt brine and stuff off during the winter.. Well, He says I need to bring you my work van!! Keep in mind his van does a lot of interstate travel and has never been clayed or polished! So, my question is what process should I use on his van, for 40 or 50 bucks?

The products I have are duragloss 501/105, XMT 360, menzerna power lock, collonite 845 as well as several nuba's... I want the most protection I can get but don't feel like claying and polishing a panel van for $50 bucks... I know its probably ok to just wash and apply power lock or colly without clay but how will it affect durability? What would your process be on a large van for 50 bucks?

If I where you I'd run, never been clayed or polished is going to be a nightmare... alot more aggravation than you need. I don't even do that for cars that I do routinely. Just my 2 cents.

I have a few customers that are like this for the winter.. they are just looking for it to be protected till spring when it can be cleaned up.. honestly though I wouldn, t touch it for less then $100

Your a nice guy....

I too am wirking on a e150. The detail alone is $200 + another $350 for the other things he wants done.

Detail:
Wash
Clay
UC
205
2.o topped with 845
Engine detail
Wheels & tires
Cockpit detail

Other:
Vinyl decal removal
Paint bumpers
Replace headlamps
Replace turn signal assembly
Oil change

For $50 id wash, spray wax, clean tires/wheels, quickie clean cockpit. Family/friends always looking for a hook up. Shiiiiii, told my mom id charge her too! (Serious Face) Definitely cheaper than other clients, but not free.

Wouldn't it make a difference if I told you he has given me a 4hp 25gal craftsman air compressor and a 4 gal 1hp pancake workforce air compressor???

If you're comfortable with calling it a "goods" for "services" that works but at minimum I'd cover costs of material. . $50 plus the 2 compressors sounds even.. just make sure you tell him that's why the price is so low this time so you don't get shafted in the future

it always depends on the market you are in
how much do your competitors charge?

in some places they could charge less than 40 $ for polishing and probably only polishing with wool pad or what ever they use and wont speak about it

and some others could charge over 150 but they get the job done and they do a professional work

so the question is how much can your customers pay for services that you provide ?

who is your targeted customer ?

if your just starting your business your costs should be low to increase the number of customers and it might not be profitable at the bigening but with time you'll gain profit

If its a close Bro in law and you have a good relatioship with him then i understand where your coming from.

Some people (actually alot) dont understand proper detailing and actually beleive at 3-400 for a light polish is a total rip off, because they see the $40 wash/polish/wax signs. Well like mentioned above, that usually means, not speaking of the process and 1 step with wool. So you have to bit the bullet a bit to get the customer and turn them intoa beleiver.

Again, if hes a close bro in law and has given you things in the past then you can do him favors i dont see why not.

My advice, Tell him 40/50 was for a car and only a few bucks in your pocket just to get in the door for "extras" on the vehicles. Tell him you'll charge him just your cost and up it a bit for a big van like that. let say $60?? If he wants future work done, polishing and etc, that truck will take 2 bars of clay, at least your cost will be justified. Others wise he may think your even pocketing on him on even the 40/50 bucks.

Hope this helps.

Ya, the 40/50 buck deal was for customers who's vehicles I detailed in the summer/fall.... I was thinking exterior wash/ interior wipe down and a spray wax or maybe a quick Nuba... He is a good bro in law, and I do his truck and my sisters vehicle for 100 to 150 for an AIO.... He has no problem paying, and I know he doesn't expect the same service for 50 bucks...
