So I worked my test spot and everything looked great when I used Ultimate Compound and an Orange Edge Pad. I worked the hood and moved to the Roof and the Deck lid/spoiler. It did a great job in getting rid of the minor/moderate swirls I had in my Honda Civic SI's CC.

However, after I noticed after some very close inspection what I would describe as pinholes all over the horizontal panels of the car. These are not just few and far between either. There are millions of them. I have read the sand blasting theory as well as the venting theory. Sorry, I don't have any pics of these spots. I tried taking pics of it many different ways and the camera I have just would not pick them up.

I went up to the Green Edge Pad with the UC, which is more aggressive and that did not touch the spots. I should mention that these spots are not on the bumper, doors, mirrors, or the spoiler. For these reasons I am not so sure either of these theories apply. Of course I could be wrong. lol

My question is should I go more aggressive and try and remove these spots or am I wasting my time? All I have is XMT 3 and 4 that I think would be more aggressive. Little worried about using 4, as I have heard how it is like using sandpaper. lol.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well :)

Regardless of the root cause of the pinholes, if they are in fact "throughout" the entire layer or matrix of paint, then more and more buffing won't produce better and better results.

Make sense?

I've seen this a lot in my life, captured it on film and have never had any fun explaining the problem to the owner of the car.

LOTS of information in this thread,

Yup, my hood is riddled with the pinholes all over. They are very frustrating and quite an eyesore, and unfortunately you can't sand/polish them out. Just go for removing swirls and scratches.

Think I kind of knew that... But didn't want to accept it. lol. Really makes me angry because of how I take care of my car. Of course, I can't take my car back to Honda... just out of warranty, not that they would do anything anyways.

Used to be that paint was only warranted for 12/12,000...maybe that has changed. I know we used to get it all the time and Ford would usually find a way to wiggle out by calling it "industrial fallout". It was usually rail dust embedded in the paint and rusting. My truck has it all over it!

If it isn't oem paint, i'm pretty sure you can sand it down. I was annoyed of this too, they are exceptionally noticeable when you have a scratch-free paint and appear as small bubbly-like-holes. We got rid of it using 2000 grit and 2500 grit sandpapers together with some leftover orange peel. If i can borrow a camera, i will post the results here too.

It is OEM paint. But thanks for the reply. I am going to have to get the areas repainted... As I can't stand them being there. I am sure everyone here can associate with that. lol
