Finally got a chance to polish my SUV. It looks great! I was using XMT 3 and XMT 360. For some reason, the XMT 3 was dusting like crazy. I tried everything; priming, not priming new pad, old pad, more polish, less polish, large area,... you get the idea. Is this normal for XMT 3? By the way I am using LC CCS pads (orange).

Also XMT 360 is great!

thank you, finally someone else who has dusting with XMT. I have had XMT dusting since the first time i used them

id say this is normal, lol.

Good to hear! I new to using a PC but I thought I was doing everything right.

Thanks for the replies.

that's what i thought too......
i wanted to try the XMT 3 because i thought this thing was dusts free......

I know personally Optimum Compound and Polish don't dust for me, could have sworn I read people comparing it to Optimum for the no dusting?

yea, i remember that when i first stocked the XMT line in my arsenal, which was one of the reason I went with Pinnacle...

does optimum have a good cut to it?

Love it, all I've used the last year. OC cuts great and finishes down very nice. I have the old version also, the newer formuation is quite more agressive yet still has the no dusting and nice finishing abilities as before. But doesn't break down as quick as others, designed more for rotary use so it has long work times, unlike 4-5 mminutes, Optimum can go for 7+ minutes easily and not flash.

I just used mine for the 1st time yesterday. I will post pics tomorrow. I found it to dust when I used too mucy product. I used a black 3m finishing pad and it worked great; very impressed. Maybe it's your pad or quantity?? I was amazed at how quickly it broke down too. I am sold on this stuff.

using the same orange pad, and I have light dusting also with XMT 3

Ditto on the dust, I had it like crazy when I did the XMT #2 and then the #1.

Yeah I get some decent dusting with both 3 and 4 no matter what I try. Very very little with #2 and none with #1.

Very similar experience here. XMT 3 dusted quite a bit, #2 was a bit less, then XMT #1 was barely visible.

Very little if any with 1 and 2, 3 and 4 have some. Not sure why people have such a fit with dust though. Not that big of a deal to me I guess.

Kind of the same here-- XMT 2, very light swirl removal but no dust- XMT1 no swirl removal and dust for me....

As for Optimum, good stuff. OC and OHC are pretty strong but will easily get the job done. OP is a good finishing polish as well. You get more then double the product than XMT for about the same price... My only think with Opt. polishes is that they can be a little oily when you remove...

Some vehicles like my suv have so many nooks and crannies that the dust will get into, and then get in parts of the window side molding etc. Not as simple as just using a blower to get it out.

I say that most polishes will have at least a little bit of dusting, I think it's just party of detailing. I usually spray the cars down after I'm done polishing as I hate having a finished vehicle with the potential of having dust on it.
