Yellow Run Stain on White Paint

Hello Family!


I recently detailed a clients White 2005 G35 for the first time. I did a two step with the Rupes 15. I used Rupes green pad with Zephir, then tangerine pad with FF3000. The thing is, there are some stains at the door handle that are yellow/brown. They look like they are like water stain-ish that ran down from door handle but the Rupes green wouldn't get it out.

I'm thinking if I should get Rupes blue pad or wetsand by hand since I'm scared to wetsand with Rupes.

I think you can see the stains if you look closely at the picture. Any input would help!

You can wet sand by hand which is safer and then use the Rupes to clean it up.
 
Stains are either topical, that is just on the surface, or they have penetrated into the paint.

If the stain is topical than abrading the surface should remove them. IF the stains are sub-surface then abrading "might" remove them it just depends on how deep the stains have penetrated.

You can try wetsanding or maybe using a more aggressive product like a compound wit a wool pad on a rotary buffer?

Be careful about sanding as sanding is putting scratches into the paint, that's the easy part. Removing them 100% is the tricky part.

A quick way to see if a more aggressive approach will yield success is to put a dab of compound on a cloth and rub vigorously with your finger. Concentrated pressure combined with the compound should give you a glimpse into what it might be and whether it can be easily removed.

If the stain begins to diminish then you're on to something so finish the area using this approach then polish to remove the more aggressive approach...

I would hand sand "carefully" as a last resort.

That is likely rust residue from the hinge pins in the handle. Had same thing on top of lower sill moldings. They were plastic so had to be dripping down rust. IronX took care of it in a flash.
