Who knew there were so many people that talked about detailing? Glad to be a part of the Auto Geek world. Thanks in advance for all the knowledge you will bestow on me in the future.

I'm a Mazda nut, more specifically a Mazda rotary nut. The signature below will help explain that. I've always been a bit obsessive about cleaning my cars. The wife will give her opinion about that. :D Just recently purchase my Porter Cable and am excited about putting it to use. I've had many years of detailing by hand and a small polisher I bought from Sears ages ago. It'll be nice to step up to the PC.

Hey TTman, I'm in Lynchburg but we have several members from the Roanoke area. Even a couple from VA Tech. We've done some drives along the Parkway and ended up in Roanoke. Maybe we'll get you in for a drive one day.

Thanks for the welcome.

Ohh wow that is awesome, well that does sound like a whole lot of fun on the parkway. I've actually never taken a joy ride through there yet, and ive lived here near Blacksburg all my life lol.

Could you tell Mazda to put a manual trans in the new Mazda 6 for me with the new V6  , I wouldn't mind that for a daily beater.

I'm a Mazda lover. I'm waiting for the return of the MX-6 (or hoping the RX8 is offered in a "stormy blue" color like the Miata or any other deep blue color--of course once my 5 year old grows up and I can return to a 2-door car).

Surely you are not as obsessive about cleaning as my ex-husband. He cleaned the rocks out of his tire treads with a toothbrush or some instrument (I'm not kidding). Anyway thats where I really got introduced into detailing. I'm fairly new to this site also but lovin it so far. I think you will too. Welcome!!

Hi VR8 and AudiTTman,

I am a AG newbie that lives in Roanoke. I own a PC and LC pads that I'm getting ready to experiment with and would appreciate any tips or guidance from people that live nearby. Also will do the parkway drives (already a regular routine with my wife!).

I don't imagine too much buffing/polishing will be going on during this cold weather, but let me know when you fire-up your machines. Maybe I could see how the pads and polishes that you are using work for you.

Hey Welcome to the Forum! You'll absolutely Love the Porter Cable compared to detailing by hand.
Oh and another fellow Virginian! Nice! (Northern VA here)

Conan im gonna cry if you own an Audi R8!!!!

Hey Chamby!!! yea this weather is killing me. With the wind yesterday it was impossible to do any kind of detailing. I tried to wash mine today and came up short when i found every hose frozen solid haha. I will tell you though , the PC and LCC pads are amazing. If you have a really good worklight it tends to help warm up a garage too in this frigid cold. Do you have any special polishes line up for your vehicle?? Im a big time user and fan of Menzerna Polishes

I hear ya Surfer, but I think we'll see a steady decline of manual tranny vehicles with the newer double clutch automatics. You may be lucky to get one with paddle shifters on the steering wheel!

Problem solved honeybee! I present to you ... the Stormy Blue RX8 (with 4 doors!). And I'd be willing to bet 90% of the AutoGeek forum members clean little rocks out of their tire treads. We're among friends!

Chamby, it's good to know we have several people close by. Thanks for the welcome. Conan, I've got a couple of RX8 buddies up your way. Some of them on this side of DC don't mind the ride south on occassion.

Thanks again gang.

AudiTTman,

Sounds like I'm in luck. I, too, planned on using Menzerna. My car is silver and in very good shape (garaged with few swirl marks). I bought a bottle of Micro Polish since it's the least abrasive in their line and will move up from there, if needed. I also have LC white, grey, and red pads to experiment with. I also have bottles of Klasse AIO and Sealant, mainly because the kit was on sale at AG last month. After reading more, I wished that I bought the Menzerna FMJ to use as the sealant. I read that it even looks better than the Wolfgang.

All of this stuff is sitting and waiting until I get time to play with it. I'd certainly like to know what you used on your black TT. That reflection in the picture is quite impressive!

VR8,

Loved the RX-8 pic! I'm a big Miata fan. Had a red 1990 and a silver 1999, but life dictated us selling them both :-(

Oh well, give a shout if you're gonna pass through town.

We've had some nice cars and some friends were like you like a Mazda?, but for some reason I'm really liking the new Mazda 6 and pry would have bought one for a daily driver if I could get that sweet new V6 with a manual trans. Looks great, love the interior, and knowing how fun the old one was I'm sure this new one is excellent to drive. Flappy paddles are borring. Is Mazda going to have a Mazda Speed version again? If they did forced induction on the new V6 and manual trans, I'd buy it in a heartbeat for the money. Ford has their new turbo 6 coming out, would make for a nice fit :D

Hey Chamby, you wont be dissapointed with your menzerna polishes. Ive been using basically 5 things on my car.

- Clay Bar (i bought the little kit from Autozone by Mothers and i love it because my car really doesn't have that much contamination on it so i didnt need anything expensive)

-Super Intense Polish w/orange pad

-Nano Polish w/white pad

-Then a spray of Top Inspection just to clean it all up and give that paint a boost!

-Last, a nice thin layer of Four Star Sealent w/red pad...If Im really into it, ill wait over night or 12 hours then apply a coat of Pinnacle Signature Series II paste wax. It by itself smells better than any women ive ever known haha.

I did all this with a Porter Cable 7424 and i absolutely love it!!!!!

Welcome..I spend a lot of time in Stuart, Va. It is down Rt 8 from Blacksburg.

Now that Ford has sold it's Mazda shares back to Mazda I'm not sure how many combo deals we'll see. I always liked some of the shared body's and parts that came from the Mazda/Ford venture. I had a '89 MX-6 and a '97 Probe, they were both GREAT cars.

I've also heard there's no room for a Speed6 in the near future, sorry.

Bunky, maybe we'll catch you in the Blacksburg mountains someday. There are excellent roads to be had over there!
