What are you guys using that doesn't make a mess out of the hinges?

I am not sure there is anything that wont make a mess. I use white lithium grease.

White Lithium grease in a plastic syringe (similar to what OptiCoat comes in) for precise application. I got mine from a surgical supply store, and filled them from a bucket of lithium grease from autozone.

Same here, I just use a little and use it often, not a bunch all at once.

HHS-2000 WURTH Spray Grease Synthetic Lubricant
I would go with something like that. I've only used motor oil from a squirt bottle, then wipe off the excess - and wipe again over the next few days.
I should use my bike chain lube - just never thought of it.

No way will I use that wax grease they sell for door hinges. I was glad to see my new car didn't have any of that stuff on it.

Castrol wheel bearing grease for roller bearing and LPS 2 lube for hinge pins. .

This is a thicker grease that won't separate over time and does a great job lubricating and the LPS 2 gets in the hinge pin area nicely.

I think general purpose bike chain lube works on the same principle as Wurth. The grease has a carrier so that it goes into tight places, the carrier evaporates leaving just the grease.

The Slide Lube that RV places sell works like that. It is liquid graphite then the carrier goes away. I used it on my companies work truck bin locks that were sticking 6 months ago and they still work great. Haven't had a chance to do my personal truck hinges yet. I picked it up at Camping World.

+1 bike chain grease.

Some varieties come in a plastic syringe making precise application easy. I think the trick of applying lubricant to door hinges is to apply it sparingly and do it on a regular basis.

Yes. I just decided to use chain lube instead of using it as an excuse to buy something. :)

When I had black car I used to use Mr Moly spray grease (Molybdenum disulfide) . Since I got a white car I switched white lithium grease or clear Wurth spray grease.

I have a regular client who owns an 8 bay full service auto repair business and as a courtesy to all of his customers he lubricates their door hinges using Zep Clear Penetrating Grease. He sprays my hinges any time I ask him to and you can't see any residue from the grease.

The liquid white lithium grease that comes in a spray can is usually best for door hinges. Spray all the hinges, rollers, ect well and then wipe any excess with a paper towel or old shop rag. Lubing door hinges is usually only needed every few years if done properly.
