I've read that microfiber pads have tremendous cut and defect removal ability. However I wanted to know I there is a difference among the two brands of pads.

If you want to use a flex you don't want to use the meguiars ones but if you are using a regular da I really like my meguiars ones

Bama Boy is spot on from what I read about Megs on a Flex. No one said they were happy with it. I tried the Optimum 6.25" on my Flex for cutting and it blew me away! Much faster than a DA and was near finished. I prefer to finish with foam and jewel with a rotary and gold pad.

DA = Meguiars

Flex 3401 = Optimum

Rotary = neither

JMO :)

Why is not good for a rotary? I was wondering about that because they are usually meant for DA's just don't know the reasoning behind it and the fact that optimum has them for rotary is even more confusing

In a nutshell, the mechanics of a rotary don't bode well for a MF pad, IMO. You could use Meg's pads on a rotary, too, they just might separate quicker. Supposedly, the Optimum pads have better adhesive material than the Meg's pads. Not sure how true this is, though.

Okay thanks Meguires it is. Haha. But would the speed settings be the same for the microfiber pads as the foam pads like 5-6 setting for cutting etc?

No youll blow your pads at those speeds quicker. Speed 4 for cutting 3 for finishing.

So the MF pads work better with the DA vs. rotary? I just used a optimum MF polishing pad with my rotary and was impressed. If the DA is better that will be really cool.

I tried the Optimum MF pads yesterday on a badly oxidized Toyota Camary, white in color with the Flex rotary and really didn't like it at all. I tired it with Automagic XP cut and Menzerna PF and boy did it get the paint super hot and wasn't cutting through the oxidization/swirls. I tried Megs MF with D300 and the Flex 3401 and it didn't touch it. I ended up going with rotary and M105 with B&S wool and it finished out really nice. I followed that up with tangerine hydro and D151 and it worked great.

I'll have to try the Op MF with the 3401 and see what happens, but based on what I saw with the rotary, I wasn't happy.
