Hey guys,

What are your thoughts on using Hydr02 over Opti-Coat?

Aside from slickness and a bit of added gloss, are there any performance advantages to applying Hydr02 over Opti-Coat? Hydr02 is pretty expensive, so I would only like to use it if there's a true benefit.

For instance, one area that Opti-Coat falls a bit short is water spotting. Will Hydr02 help with that?

Thanks in advance.

Food for thought -- one of my Opti-Coated cars got attacked by a bird this morning. Lots of droppings everywhere. The droppings were really stuck onto the paint, and took some effort to remove with a soapy mitt.

As I recall, when this happened to a car that was sealed with a slick sealant like Menzerna Powerlock, the "slickness" of the surface made it much easier to remove bird droppings.

So, perhaps that is one advantage of putting something slick over Opticoat?

This has been discussed many times and you need nothing over Opti-coat no reason for it.

Actually Hydr02 over Opti-Coat is fine, its also a good maintenance for Opti-Coat

I like reload more

OCP is 100% permanent. Never wears off, never stops beading. Nothing kills it! No need to waste your money and time adding stuff on top.

Gotta go with this. Anything you top it with is completely for your enjoyment of detailing but adds nothing.

I believe he is trying to find a product that creates slickness for future ease of wiping. I would suggest any kind of spray wax or spray sealant if you would want the slickness. I have not used opticoat but people say it is not that slick compared to other coatings.though I might feel that potentially any spray sealant/wax might not adhere that well to opticoat.

I used OID and Permanon... And yep, solely for the fun of adding slickness for a few days.

For fun it does refresh and is by far the easiest application.

Yep you got me. I just think that a little slickness else if a little bit of polymers on top would not hurt. OID is cheap by the concentrate (IMO).

I use reload over the opticoat. I know it's not "needed" but it does add the slickness and imo, a little gloss & depth.

+1

My current combo. I also use reload as my drying aid to speed up my maintenance washes

Agreed. Reload seems to be the best option.

I really need to give it a try since many recommended it. The price seems a bit steep but I know you guys say just to use a little bit. I hope I can get the amount correct.

May I ask if your maintenance/wash is weekly or? (Consider ignoring harsh weather).

Cause here I for sure did a weekly washdown (be it shampoo or rinseless).

If there is little to no buildup (which can happen) after a week, I even just do waterless wash.

And no matter which way I do, I follow up with OID wipe, sometimes Permanon like once in a month. (Permanon is kind of cheap in my place).

I top mine with C2v3 but I've used in the past:

Wolfgang DGSS
Meguiars D156
Optimum Car Wax
Optimum OID
Blackfire WDPS
Wolfgang DGPS 3.0
Optimum OS
Ultima PG+

And you know what my findings were?....

Use whatever gives you the feel and look you want :)

Who cares what anyone else thinks. It's your car.

I realize a topper is not needed, but has anyone topped opti-coat with exov2?

Given that opti-coat has that "grabby" feeling, would exo result in the same slickness over opti-coat as it does over c1?
