Tinted Windows Annoy Me

I hear ya...but in a few months it won't be light out after work, either. I think they should move somewhere with sidewalks. Or maybe you should give them reflective vests for Christmas, although these days you usually see the glow of the smartphone screen...

That's the irony... some cops complain about tinted windows and they site for the reason of their safety which I can appreciate. But, they tint their own car just because they can get away with it? What about the other officer who might pull them over? Things like this makes me think that this is all BS and it is nothing more than a revenue generator.

Being a former motor cop in California, I can lend a different perspective. Our department expected our personal vehicle's comply with all vehicle equipment laws. As a field training officer, I had a new recruit that drove his lowered, illegally tinted pick-up to work every day. He was required to get his truck into compliance ASAP. Regarding "professional courtesy", I gave plenty of citations to off-duty cops and their wives. Unfortunately, some officers DO view themselves as being above the law, it smacks of hypocrisy and irritates me to no end.

Just know that not ALL cops are members of the "Good Ol' Boys Club".
 
Hey PonyPower, do you have one of those rather large emblems on your plate, looks like a badge or one of those "Back the Badge" plate frames? I call those "get out of ticket gear".

Apparently my original post caused quite a traffic flow! You know, tinted windows are starting to grow on me, kinda like an unexplainable fungus.

When I look at them now I think to myself, "Aww man, that person must have bright light sensitivity. What a shame." And suddenly, I'm not as annoyed.

This has been a great thread, whether your chiming in to be funny or informative, works both ways. That said, the informative parts of it make sense to those of us whom are logical thinking people and NOT criminals!

Of course and I have no doubt about that. I was just generalizing and my apologies if that offended you or anyone else.

I have 3 friends that are cops and my neighbor is a cop as well. Have another friend that is an assistant DA. I call them pigs nonetheless :)

LOL! No "get out of a ticket stickers." I just drive the speed limit. When I was a cop, I always tried to find probable cause to stop cars sporting such stickers. The driver usually had warrants, suspended license or drugs. LOL!

Setec, I was medically retired after a motor vehicle accident that did some serious damage to me. My department didn't have a union but I was the treasurer of the Police Officer's Association. We had no bargaining power which was fine since I'm not a huge fan of unions.

I used to get into arguments with the Street Crimes captain because one of there detective cars had illegal tint on it and I'd to catch flak from citizens complaining about that detective car while I was writing a ticket for their illegal tint. They had a very valid point!

Did you see the video about the guy who was pulled over on July 4th (this year) and he was being harassed by the police? They made him get out of his car, got the search dogs, all for no reason. In fact, they never questioned him if he was drinking or not. The guy was saying he knows his rights and what the Constitution says, and the cops admitted just that on camera without even knowing. Cops, in my opinion, support the New World Order, whether they know it or not. When they just start harassing people and arresting people for no good reason, they're supporting tyranny, which is what America is slowly, but surely, falling under. Can't convince me otherwise, no matter how crazy it sounds.
 
tinted windows are fantastic. there are sooo many benefits to having you car darkened. i detail cars alot but i also tint windows an equal amount. many people already know they want their windows done. tinting reduces the uv rays, reduces glare, reduces solar energy, adds privacy and in the case of a crash or broken window it will hold the glass together so you dont get glass all over your car. the only reason i got into window tinting is becuase i wanted my car done.....and if i got pulled over and had to remove it, i didnt wanna have to pay a tint guy another $300+ to redo my car.....soo after a few years of doing friends cars (some easier than others) i started doing them for strangers. its alot of fun and challenging to do. its much more fun when you use a great product like suntek films.
if you ask me, tinted windows are great. i did every window in my daily driver a different color to show people. and the entire windshield is done in mercedes benz blue 50% tint. so when i drive everybody has blue headlights.....haha

I got my windows tinted maybe a week or so after I bought my 2013 Scion tC, and my dad was practically begging me to not do it. All he ever thinks about is what could go wrong in the future with window tint, this, that and the other. Once he saw the tint, he thought it pulled the whole look of the car together. :laughing: In fact, everyone who saw my car before the tint loved it even more after the tint. It really does set the look of the car off. Really nice. I got Llumar 20% all around, except for the windshield, which was not tinted at all. I live in Florida and from what I understand, 20% is actually illegal, but I've had cops pass me in all directions, no issues. Even if I got pulled over for it, I wouldn't change it. What are the chances of getting busted again for having the same tint? lol. There are bigger crimes to take care of rather than waste time on someone's window tint. My tint isn't really that dark, either. I love how it makes my car look dark inside at night. Might be a false sense of security, but I think it deters people from seeing what's inside, even though I leave nothing in sight except for my umbrella, lol.

tint really does pull off the whole look of a car. i doubt you will have much trouble at all in florida with 20%. tint is legal to a certain degree down there. i am from pittsburgh and im not familair with exactly what floridas laws are. HOWEVER if you are that concerned about the cops and your car has a sunroof......when you see a cop act quick and open your sunroof shade to let light in. cops just want to see a face behind the window (not total blackness). on the other hand if u want to make it extra dark close the sunshade and flip your visors down. that should darken it up some with 20%. LLUMAR is one of the top 3 tint films available. they make amazing car films and even better residential and commercial films. so you definetly got a good product.

I use my sunshade in the windshield at night and it makes my car look BLACK inside, lol. Love it. :) Glad to see someone else knows that little trick. Most people I mention it to think it's odd, but a good idea.

My dad thinks the tint will peel and ruin everything or the heater strips (for lack of a better term) in the back window will be ruined. He can be a worry wart. My last car had the same brand of tint, just lighter in darkness, and the driver window did start bubbling, but it was replaced in a half hour and for free, so I couldn't complain one bit. That was after almost 6 years of having the tint. That's why I went with LLUMAR again. Lifetime warranty as long as you have the original receipt and it looks good. I also love that the tint itself is computer cut, no razors. :)

ya if the tint peels on the side window it is no big deal to remove it and reinstall it. as far as the back window and the defroster lines, the tint actually helps them to work better. it insulates them and keeps them warmer. as far as peeling them off goes.....if you remove the tint on a much older car it is possible to have the metal defroster lines come off with the tint. however there is 2 ways around that. one way to safely remove it is with a hot steamer. start with one corner and blast the steamer at it as u peel back. the second way is to spray your back window down with ammonia and stick a black garbage bag to the inside of the rear window and set it in the sun all day. the black garbage bag will draw in lots of heat and the ammonia will help loosen that glue. explain that to him maybe it will help!!!

Like I mentioned before, my dad is weird about messing with cars. I almost had a rear spoiler installed on my car, too, and he was harpin' on that for a while. Weird thing is, I don't even live at home, haven't for several years now, and he still kinda chimes in on what I do. The day after I bought my car, I spent 8 hours cleaning it, and that bugged him, too. He's goofy sometimes. Don't catch me in a bad mood and then want explanations on anyone or anything, because I'll talk sh!t about them all day long, lol.
