This is the first time that I have polished out an entire car. I did the polishing with a Flex 3401 using a combination of Uber Green, Meguiars Yellow and LC Orange pads (followed up with Uber Green). The polish used was HD Polish.

I probably should have done a two-step correction on certain areas, but I was trying to preserve as much of the clearcoat as possible. In particular, the roof was on the thin side. Overall, I think I attained between 60-80% correction on most panels so I am fairly satisfied with the improvement. Although I did not take any before pictures, I can honestly say that there is a significant improvement in gloss.

Here are some pictures that were taken with my iPhone. I do not have another camera so I apologize for the lack of detail.

On this particular panel, it came out near-perfect after several passes with HD Polish; I do not know if this picture shows it well enough, but here it is anyway:

So far, I have only found one high spot from my application of the OC 2.0. Hopefully I will not find too many more as time goes on.

I will post some pictures of the water beading once I wash the car in a week or two.

Looks good nice job. If you want you can polish down the high spot and just reply Opti-coat.

Hi Pure shine, do you mean the whole panel?

I have a few high spots (did it in a dark garage with only an LED torch).

Does it have to be completely polished out or can it be layered as soon as the high spot is gone?

Thanks!

Just the high spot. If you use a light polish you will likely not even need to reapply the opti-coat. But I would just polish until you don't see the high spot and then if you wanted to for reassurance reapply after an IPA wipedown or 2.

It shows that you put a lot of effort into your work. It turned out very nice.

Hi AF90, yeah I wanted that reassurance, I just thought OC2 wasn't layerable from what I've read.

Thanks!

Chris @ Optimum gave me the same instructions. My understanding is that it can be layered for 30 days. The true test is if the OC behaves normally when applied; if it starts streaking then the panel must be scuffed with a polish.

From everything I've read it can be layered but is not necessary. If you want to ensure coverage you can use 2 layers but I think it was stated that it should be done back to back otherwise the second layer may not bond properly.

Yeah it's not that we are trying to layer it purposely.. it's just if we buff off too much trying to remove a few high spots (dark garage, LED didnt cover everything).

hrmm looks damn good, my fiance just got a 2013 magnetic grey Prius and i have to do some protection on it. now just have to get my hands on some opti-coat or CQ lol...

Washed the car today. As advertised, this stuff seems to do an amazing job of keeping the car clean. After one week, the car stayed much cleaner than usual.

All of the dust/dirt came off using a strong blast of the garden hose. During the wash process, the car wash soap would just roll off the paint. This is a bit surprising since the paint feels a tad grabby when it is dry.

So far, I only found two high spots. Even though it has been a week, I was able to "knock down" those two high spots with a MF towel and Meguiars M205. It took about 2-3 strokes and the high spot was gone. I may go back and re-coat those two areas for good measure.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the performance of Opti-Coat 2.0 so far.

Lucky you. Magnetic grey is a much nicer color than the Winter grey that I have. Magnetic grey will actually show the metallic flakes.

So I visited Jsmooth earlier tonight. He's a great guy who truly know his stuff. He taught me a number of good tips and techniques.

The bad news (or good) though, is that he was able to spot a ton of high spots on the roof that I had never noticed before...how embarrassing. :(
