I am doing something wrong. I've only polished with WG in the past but am using Dp to prepare for coating. Followed the directions but its leaving a film. I've rubbed my arm off but it's just moving the film around. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

What type of MF you using to remove the product? How long do you wait between application and removal?

I've been using gold plus jr towels and tried removing right after application. Then I tried waiting for a few minutes. It didn't seem to matter. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What were your prior sealant/lsp ?
Not familiar with this product?process, just inquisitive.

Dewy, what i do is apply a nickel sized drop to my foam applicator pad and massage it into the paint, one panel a time. I wipe the panel down with an MF towel immediately after finishing application to the panel. Then move to the next panel. I have no hazing or residue left. Just clean paint.

Are you washing before hand?

If your having a hard time removing a product, it usually means your using too much

Prior lap was wolfgang 3.0 sealant. Today I washed, ironx, and clayed before polishing. I think you may be right about too much product as I was getting some dusting. Do you all think wetting it down with plain water will help? Just want to make sure it's ready for the dp coating.

I have not seen any film remain behind after using DP Coating Polish Prep?

Sounds like you're doing everything right too?

If it comes to it... maybe try wiping with a little IPA diluted with water?

:)

Is it a good idea to prime the pad with prep polish?

Yes but not crucial.

Just by applying the product a little dab at a time you'll also be priming the pad.

Remember, since most people are working on a clear coat finish, any residual polishing oils, fillers or any other substance on the surface is for the most part topical, that means sitting on the surface as clear coats are NOT very porous.

So the goal of using Detailer's Coating Prep Polish or ANY other liquid to chemically strip and prep paint for application of the coating is to remove these residual substances off the surface. This doesn't take a lot of hand or machine buffing. It's not like removing swirls and scratches with a compound it's a fairly fast but thorough application of the product to loosen, emulsify and then remove the residues to leave behind a surgically clean surface.

In my experience with DP Prep Polish, if the compound/polish dusts or is hard to remove then DP Prep Polish will dust. This is because it is doing what it is made to do, removing any residual product.

On the STI I did with the DP coating. IPA couldn't get the compound/polish out of the Soft Paint. Once I used the DP Prep Polish the Surface was completely free of residual compound/polish but dusted like crazy.

Once DP Prep Polish has been used to clean a panel. Grab a fresh pad with DP Prep Polish and see if you still get dusting.
