Hey ppl
finally my geek gear arrived and started to doing some work on my car last few weeks
not having a place to work really pushes me back on finishing it
So far i did 2 days separate from a few weeks in friend's house and this is what im at so far
First day :
This was my first time ever doing work by machine
Did the hood , whole left driver side , parts of the trunk
Steps and products used :
Decontamination with meguiar's claybar
Pinnacle rinsless wash used 3oz to 32oz of distilled water as lubricant
Griot's garage 6"
Meguiar's DA microfiber correction kit 5"
Lake country hydrotech cyan 5.5"
Meguiar's M105+D300
Carpro fixer
Started looking good , but i had a tough time getting many of the scratches out even after many passes.
Also run into some problems with the meguiar's mf pads not sticking properly to the meguiar's BP , and the cyan pads started to fell out after a few passes on some panels.
All in all the corrected areas got to about 85% and more on some panels to my taste , but required way too many hours and passes per panel to correct them
Mf pads + M105 and M300 combined gave the best results on this particulary oem paint
Fixer both with mf pads and foam pads did not do much ( it worked but reeeally slow )
Finally sealed the work with Wolfgang deep gloss 3.0 ( although i still need to do 1 pass of fine cut polish to the car )
Here are some shots from the first day
Note : light hazing its due to a poor quality cell phone camera.
Day 2 :
So , having that experience and another one from a paid job clearly the orbital polisher was not gonna cut it for work duty. Too many hours + too heavy pressure needed + not top notch results = exhausted detailer and unhappy about the outcome.
I went and got myself a rotary polisher locally
Did my research and got a dewalt 849x
Steps and products used :
Decontamination with meguiar's claybar
Pinnacle lubricant
Taped moldings, rubber, spaces and body lines
Correction with 6.5 yellow, orange and white CSS , 3 and 5.5 orange Hydrotech
Wet glaze 2.0
Tests spots :
Fixer + CSS orange pad = failed
M105 + CSS orange pad = failed
Menzerna PF2500 + yellow CSS pad = Great
Menzerna PF2500 + orange CSS pad = Great
Menzerna PF2500 + white CSS pad = fine but slow
Again fixer did nothing to me , and m105 failed too , was surprised to see a lower cut polish to accomplish faster and better results than those 2 one being a compound and the other one a versatile polish with 8-9 in the scale of cutting ability
Process for the rest of the car was mainly yellow and orange CSS pads with PF2500 worked between 1800 and 800 RPM
Correction was a breeze and took several less hours and back pain , and the results way better. Still many rids are left with i have no choice to sand or forget about them
After correction i did a layer of Wet Glaze 2.0 and called it a day
Total for both days so far its 14hs in
Pics from the 2nd day
