No particular reason except to show two brands in one project.
As a guy that shares on a very large and public forum the idea of following a manufacturer's recommendations and directions... of course I would strip the wheels down to bare metal before painting.
First I'll have the tires removed. This means this will be at a minimum as full weekend project.
At this point we're also looking at other options, such as getting some other Mercedes-Benz wheels such as some AMG wheels that are in excellent condition, perhaps some chrome wheels like these,
If we do upgrade to some nicer wheels I will still do the write-up on how to refinish wheels.
