I have an account with a used car dealer to do
His vehicles for $140 per car.

What is a good asking price to charge for Explorers and
a H3 Hummer? What a out Minivans and larger SUVs?

Thanks

I charge 300.00 for big suv's and mini vans.

Interior and exterior? Paint correction? Gotta be more specific.

I have several large vehicles being scheduled all are not in bad shape; they do, however; have large stickers on the pain that I have to remove; hate that.

Jeep Wrangler full detail
Ford Explorer full detail
Hummer H3 full detail.

I called the local car wash/detail shop and they're charging $184. per vehicle. I currently get $135 from the used car lot but since he's giving me work, I'm willing to accept less money although, I hope to get regular customers and charge more.

I have a feeling this guy is not going to accept $184. per vehicle so I'm thinking $165.00 for these vehicles and I should stand my ground. I could, however, lose his business but I shouldn't have to spend more time and product for the same price.

Never under sell your self detailing is hard work get what your worth. I'm 46 years old and love what I do but I will always get what my work is for or they can go somewhere else.x

Location is an important factor. $300 in SLC and you're not going to get any business.

Thanks everyone for your advice. If he won't pay, I'll find someone else that will.

Well, I informed the used car dealer of my prices for minivans, medium and small Suvs, etc and he told me we have to part ways. He told me that the price for $135.00 should be for all of his cars no matter the size.

I told him that larger vehicles require more time and product. His reply was the last guy who did a Duelie only charged $100.00. I thanked him for the work he sent and we parted ways.

Unbelieveable. Cheap Ba$tard.

Sorry to hear this happen but all dealer are cheap asses they don't care about the cars. The only thing they care about is $$$$ not quality. This is the reason why I don't do dealer work.:dblthumb2:

How often does he get these larger vehicles? It'd be a shame to lose a lot of decent paying work over a few tougher vehicles. How long have you been doing vehicles for him? How important is the current flow of work that you are getting from him? Are you able to tweak you services all around to make up time on every job to offset the cost of doing these larger vehicles. That's going to be the winning factor when working for used car dealerships. Become more efficient all around for the same price and the problem goes away.

Just the way I think and the way I've grown in dealing with these types of accounts.

That's rough. I'm sorry, but your price was more than reasonable. I charged $225 for an Escalade that I did over the summer (interior/exterior without shampooing the carpet) and the owner didn't even bat an eye. In fact, they called me back for 2 other vehicles. I understand that dealers are cheap and all, but you gave him more than a fair price.

He gets large vehicles quite often and quite a few of them had large stickers I needed to remove as well as the left overs pieces of hood protectors that I had to remove the glue from.

In addition, he wanted me to clean-up the engine compartment included. In short, he wanted the world but did not want to pay for it. When I summed it up on how much time it took to clean his vehicles vs what he was paying, it wasn't worth it to do larger vehicles considering how much additional time and products I would need to use.

I agree but doing 6-8 hours of work for 165-185 crap really

If its that many hours then you're right. I spend about 2 hours and charge 70 for an interior detail. But SLC is a bad market while starting out. Most people do notice the difference between a hack and my work so that's nice. I get some nice tips too.

If its taking 6-8 hours you should be making a lot more. I didn't factor that in.

Dealer's won't realize good work. They care about getting it to look relatively good at the cheapest price. If you want respect for your work I'd suggest offering your service to a car that shows up at car shows.

I'm planning on choosing friends car or two to fix up and throw my logo on so people recognize when its a sweet ride driving by.

I realize I'm rehashing this thread, but it pizzes me off.

So why isn't the "last guy" still doing details for him? Exactly. What a cheap azz.

Oh, and don't be shocked when he calls you up, last minute, he's in a jam because his other guy quit/failed to show up/got fired, etc. and he needs you to come save him.

Size
Condition
Severity

These are what determines my final price. Quoted prices are 'starting points'. A client wants me to be specific, no problem. I'll be the most specific person you've seen,....as soon as I see your vehicle in person.

Another thing I like to tell difficult haggler types....

Fast
Cheap
Good

Now pick two.

I'm glad you stood your ground on price.
