MF towel cost usage

Yeah it does...

I walked over today and took a good look at the car..... Just to see....

It's really bad, almost no shine at all from an angle.... And none looking down at the paint.

Don't know if you remember my thread from back in the spring, about the Lexus I did for my friend "Mike"? How we spent a 'boys weekend out' together doing his wife's Lexus (that had never been touched) and he griped the entire time.

I've mentioned him several times throughout the year. Even when he sold his work car, a Corolla that was easily worth $7K for only $6K because he wouldn't pay me $250 to buff it out. I told him then that if he didn't at LEAST double what he paid me in return that I'd give him half of it back.

He just doesn't get the idea WHY ANYONE WOULD WANT TO SPEND SO MUCH TIME TAKING CARE OF THEIR CAR LIKE I DO.

Sent me a photo of part of the window sticker on his 2014 Tundra the other day, (not the price side). Of course I ran the VIN and found the truck, options, and of course the price. :laughing: I replied to him, "Why didn't you send me the rest of the sticker, it's this truck, $46,881 right?" :laughing:

Then I went on to tell him about rail dust and why it needed attention NOW as well as a link to "The Lady in Red" and of course Black Label coatings. Telling him that is EXACTLY what a person needs that doesn't want to wax or keep up with their vehicle, and that it'll last up to THREE YEARS.

What did he reply with?
"Tony, what do you think about the WeatherTech floor mats?"
Are you freaking KIDDING ME!!!!!!!??????!!!!!!

Told him IMHO they are the best thing he can possibly get, fit like a glove, and will protect like nothing else. Although I really wish they made some with carpet inserts, which is why I've never bought them.

He said it's amazing how many things I know so well and that his wife said I should have a website dedicated to helping and advising people on things like that. OH.... and wanted to know what IMHO meant? :laughing: I told him to pop over to AutoGeek and look for Cardaddy. I try to help people there, as well as everyone else tries to help one another.

Of course I thanked him, and told him what it meant (IMHO), and he said that's what I should name the website. :laughing: Left it at that, and so goes it.

Hi Guys! Do you guys count how many cars can a MF towel for QD, waffle weave towel be used before you can say its cost effective? Thanks!

for 2013 i use around 720 towels that i get in with 50-60 cents a towel , for dry i use thick towels , i get them with around 2 dollars as bulk price.

i use 1 towel around 10 times top before i trash it. (it starts on paint , interior and windows , wheels)
i would say is cost effective if you get them with a good price.

Cardaddy, i am currently using a 600 gsm mf towel for QD from korea. And a plain waffle weave from korea too. On a regular day, we do roughly around 15 maintenance washes and 30 cars on weekends. I just want to put an equivalent price per car per towel if thats even possible, lol. Anyway any feedback will do, thanks!

15 washes a day? How many people do you have working for you? I can only do about 3-4 washes per day (then again I'm getting old). If these are on cars that are full of swirls and owners who don't know the difference, the MFs are only worth your piece of mind that the swirls aren't from you.

My dad amazes me, his cars/trucks are flawless (I polished them for him about a year ago and he adds wax about every 6 months). I was looking at them yesterday and couldn't find a swirl anywhere. He uses a bath towel to dry them, don't know how he does it. I've tried to give him some MFs, he won't use them. As for me, 1 wash is my break even point, I won't touch anything else to the paint.


My brother on the other hand is one of those guys that as long as the car starts when you turn the key it doesn't require anything (not even an oil change) other than an occasional drive through the local automatic wash. Maintenance recommendations are "just so other people can make money". I think he's adopted.

I just cringe when I think back to my high school job at a car wash. We had a bunch of old bath towels that we used to dry cars as they came out of the wash. our training was simple, dry fast and hard, get the car dry before it gets to the end of the conveyor. A person on each side and one towel each per car. Customers loved us because we were the only wash in town that hand dried...Can only imagine how many scratches we put into cars...The majority of people in this world look at a car as a means of transportation, nothing more. They don't understand proper washing or really even care. My son even complains when we wash my wife's DD. "Why are we doing all of this to this car?" He understands with her Camaro or my vette, but to him it's not worth our time on a DD. I guess that's the influence of spending too much time with his uncle.

Yeah, I remember.

Talked to the guy the other day and informed him that if something isn't done soon the clear coat will start to fail before much longer.

It's really oxidized really bad on the top panels.

I think I have him convinced though.

Just going to use D151 and the CYAN HT pad to clean it up if he really lets me work on it to keep the cost down. If the Cyan pad isn't aggressive enough the Megs MF Cutting disc will be.
