Chemical Guys now has $10,000 Gold Wax - Review Requested

Just a waste of time, money and our time. I feel really sorry for whoever buys this

I wouldn't feel sorry. These guys that purchased the wax probably have more money than brains.

At some level, it boils down to appearances, does it not?
Some guys will go get a $10 hair cut at a local barber shop, others will go to a boutique and get a $50 cut. Some would not be caught dead in either one; they spend upwards of $500 getting a hair cut, pampered with espresso and sparking water while getting a complimentary massage.
Now, if you switched out the stylists and put the $10 barber in the boutique, and the $500 stylist in the barbershop, the client wouldn't dare set foot in the barbershop to follow his stylist. It's about appearances.
Take detailing, for example. If someone told you they use a $4 Meguiar's product on their car, some of you might look down on them. While you don't see value in this low end product, they do.
Ultimately it boils down to perception, and what you are willing to spend. Some will spend $75 on a piece of steak, others wouldn't pay more that $10 or $15, and it better come with sides.

Well said. And afterall this was SEMA in Vegas, people drop a $1,000 on a bottle at the Vegas casino pools we can buy for $30.00, it's all relevant.

I played with the wax at SEMA. It really a true piece of art. A detailer collectable.

Maybe I will post up a review from CG Headquarters next time I am at the store. :dblthumb2:

How does one justify price? This is a legitimate question. Does it offer unheard of protection, shine, gloss, or overall looks? Does it contain ingredients that are harder to find than kryptonite(joke but you get my point). I would love to hear your response

Very poignant comment.

Its interesting that there is a guy in Texas with a cnc machine that makes a container that looks just like this, only its the largest magnetic "herb" grinder you have ever seen. He gets $350 each for them and says he can't keep them in stock. He was at a show looking for someone to make a fancy wood box for him to sell the them in. His cost (without the box) was $30 bucks.
Some people will but anything with a high price tag.

It's got unicorn tears, dodo bird droppings, and bits of real panther, so you know it's good.

We can't wait LOL Bahahahahaha :buffing:

crazy stuff... haha well the dollar store brings up an entirely different issue...those things probably aren't even worth a dollar! That's the other end of the goods spectrum, made with exploited labor, cheap materials etc...but let's not open up that can of worms now. I'm going to stop my rant before it fully starts. :nomore:

A lot of the dollar store stuff is just quantities anymore. A smaller quantity for a smaller price.

Chemical Guys has some decent stuff but some of their stuff rubs me the wrong way. They are trying so hard to be this hip, cool company appealing to a younger audience; then why do they have the most, hands down, no question; the most poorly produced videos in detailing? Crappy, quiet, crackling mono audio; awful effects, etc. etc. And their awful naming system... don't get me started. So complicated and confusing and the names mean nothing and tell me nothing about what the product actually does!

I like the products of theirs that I've used but the more they do stuff like this; the harder it is to take them seriously at all. My $0.02!

Don't know the particular rhyme or reason for this CG's offering...

But it...along with its accompanying dialogue...has, at least for a few moments,
taken my mind off of the latest natural disasters to strike around the World...
And the hardships and desolation they have placed upon the Humankind that's been sorely affected.

For that much...
I suppose a: Thank You, CG's...would be in order.

Bob

:iagree: It's rebranding, relabeling, remarketing etc. What's ironic, they seemed to think their plain white CG labeling was cool(and cheap as they could print those themselves, I sell table top commercial label printers) now they've gone nitro with the bright neon labels and more catchy names. I liked the products of theirs I bought in the past but I'm pretty much not buying any new hyped up ones.

Boy, this wax got so many people's undies in a bundle. It's just a product from a company. Nothing more. Not a personal attack on those who can't afford the product. I don't take offense to products from any company that I cannot afford and for those who can afford those products, I applaud your hard work, persistence, bravery and dedication. Good for Chemical Guys for thinking outside the box and good for the people who can afford to buy this product.
As for "income inequality" don't get me started. In a free, capitalist society there will, by definition, never be income equality. If you value this concept then there are several countries that would love to have your citizenship and hard work ethic to contribute to "the collective". Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela come to mind. Nuf said.

First; not to get us too off-topic on the politics, and in many respects I DO agree with you. But JUST to play the devils advocate; it's important to know that there have been big changes in income equality just since 1970, and the U.S. doesn't fare well compared to many other capitalist countries.

Anyway; as far as 'not being able to afford it', I don't think that's it for everyone being critical of the product; and that includes me. No, I can't afford it (there's also a 'won't' aspect in there, lots of expensive things really aren't that great). But, it's what Chemical Guys has been doing in the past couple of years. Their videos, formerly informative step-by-step, have turned into crummy music, weird effects, and STILL no decent microphone for the presenter (One side of my laptops speakers is wearing out faster than the other!). That and product labels and naming scheme has become this weird, "Hey look at us, we're the cool kid- we called one of our products 'stripper'! How edgy!". Now the products ARE good from what I can tell, I use them too. And maybe I'm completely wrong; but it just feel patronizing. As someone new to detailing I just see a list of products with funky names that don't mean anything. Which means that the cynic in my wants to say this is another stunt. It could also be the single greatest wax ever to grace this earth- but if anyone would market something like this JUST to get attention, it would be chemical guys.

I may be 100% wrong- but that's just the way I feel about them. Their products stand on their own- I just wish they would take themselves seriously so it was easier for us to take them seriously. Imagine if Bentley tried to sell high end cars by using a crappy mono microphone, zooming in and out of the dashboard really fast, downloading some royalty free music and doing constant fast-forwar reverse effects? Oh, and it wasn't the next Bentley Continental, it was a Bentley Pimpmobile Express Hyper Green Pink Mr.Dudeman edition! Not to be confused with the Bentley Cheeseburger yellow thunder skylane fighter-jet 95.

Maybe I'm just being a cynic! LOL

Lol. So you're assuming everyone that can afford this product or that's wealthy enough, worked for what they have gotten? Such a nice little fairytale world you live in. There's no such thing as spoiled kids getting every thing handed to them because of name, right? First name that comes to mind is Paris Hilton. Such a hard dedicated worker she is...

Bravery? Wow. That word should only be reserved for military personnel.

If your rich - more power to you. Who cares how you got your money. The people I despise are the welfare takers. America is entitlement happy. The masses have their hands out - and they want you to work while they play X Box and eat Papa Johns all day. That's the real problem, the forced redistribution of our income. Not those that have money and didn't work for it.

+1000. The hands always going to be out when Santa Claus is in the White House. Sorry, but 51% of the people in this country have to be disgusted with themselves.

Someone who wants that "sophisticated" look, OMG. How can he say that without laughing out loud. I'm not hating on the price, or the people that want to purchase something like that..but every damn person on here knows that the key is in the prep work...not the Peach Extract, lol.
