When is it going to be our turn?!

Yeah thats what I said in my first post, good for wax actually prefered because I wouldnt have to reverse direction around the car so the cord isnt wrapped around it. Thats pretty cool it has been done already though I definitly had no clue. I wonder if they didnt catch on because of poor operating characteristics or the market just didnt have a big need when these were being produced. I would definitly buy one to spin some 3in pads in wax and go to town!

It's probably a small market. Most detailing enthusiasts park the car in question in a garage; reaching for a corded tool is just as easy. I also think they tend to market these things wrong; calling them polishers. They lack the power, and the longevity. Many complained about not being able to do a correction on an entire car with one of these with one battery. But if they can do 3/4 of a car with paint correction; I ought to be able to machine apply wax/sealant to both cars and both motorcycles on a battery! I could also see it being useful for spot correction if it had the power.

When this tool comes out, it will truely deserve attention from the fanboys, infact, EVERYONE will be a fanboy! "Build it and they will come" will take on a whole new meaning!! If you could do an entire average car and have to change out say 3 packs it would be awesome! The term "game changer" gets thrown a lot but for this, its the true meaning of the term and would rank up there with carnuba, sealants, coating and Wipe New......LOL!

That is not cordless though and that thing is $$$$$$$ :dunno:
I was responding to the idea of having a cord running from a battery worn on your waist to the tool.

I'm also quite sure the brushless motor and lithium batteries required to make a cordless polisher a reality will not come cheaply (says the guy with 2000 watts of it in his RC truck)!

Yea i want to say that grinder pictured was only like 50 bucks by itself, but the battery pack by itself was 100!

I disagree with every thing you just stated

I'd design the battery pack to be worn in the back around your waist and a cord from your back to the polisher.

Why settle for any cords at all?
I thought that's one of the reasons behind the invention of "RC".

Agreed...Just an intermediate step until the next stage of battery tech comes to us (super-capacitors?). The currently favored lithium ion cells (largely from A123 systems) result in huge packs and lots of weight added to the buffer. It would take 24 cells (8S3P--even then we'd only have an hour of buffing time) of the 18650 form factor to support 400 watts. That alone is 33.8 oz of batteries added to the polisher! Where are we going to put the 24 cubic inches of battery pack without it getting in the way?

Sorry....Radio Control:xyxthumbs:

Sorry, didn't make the connection, pardon the pun, with that one.

Its been posted about a little over 2 lbs in battery packs to run for an hour, the extra weight would be awkward because it unbalance the machine a bit, even if they were on opposite sides of each other.

I was disagreed with about a cordless machine being a "game changer" and am waiting for why my entire comment was disputed. That said, I mean the cordless machine isn't a "game changer" like Wipe New or Dr. Detail but maybe I should've stated it would change a lot of detailers lives, sorry.

Was checking out some of the Black Friday deals and saw this.

Simoniz "Professional" Grade Cordless Polisher - $79.99 on sale for $30.00...

I'm assuuming professional isnt the correct term, but hey, maybe I am wrong.

Cordless buffers or polishers will for the most part only be good for applying a finishing wax to paint already in great condition.

As others have stated, correction work, even to one panel will wear down the batter pretty fast.

The one exception for HOPE for the future would be a design like the Rupes polishers where you're not pressing down hard with firm pressure to the tool.

It's the downward pressure over long periods of time that will eat up the battery life and power.

Sorry...
A123 Systems was "allowed" to be acquired by:
Wanxiang...A Chinese auto parts manufacturer.

They'll get it all figured out pretty soon...
Or just keep on acquiring Tech Firms until they do!

Nothing to be sorry about:)
They are still marketed under the A123 banner as far as I can tell. It would be a confusing world if we only referenced parent companies and not brand names. :props:

With the profits going to the Far East...
(And I'm not talking about out towards Bangor, Maine either.)

IMO...
Having all of these step-parents:
That's what causes most of the confusion.

I found an 18v cordless rotary polisher with a 3ah battery in Germany. Wonder the battery life.
