Going to order a foam cannon what is a good soap? To use in it? Does it matter how much psi my power washer is? What is the process in using one
 
Honestly. I believe the GPM is more important than the PSI.
 
I have the electric CleanForce 1800 from Home Depot. Works great with the foam cannon. As for soap I like Chemical Guys Mr. Pink, Citrus Wash & Gloss, and Homeydew.
 
Chemical guys Citrus wash + gloss is shown below; 2 oz soap and 30 oz. warm water.

Duragloss 901 & CG Mr. Pink are also very good. I don't like honeydew very much compared to the others.

Do you know if CG Citrus Wash is safe for OptiCoat?
 
The psi does matter. I use my 1900psi electric PW and it does a nice foam. I happened to use the same soap(megs Super Soap) out of a much higher psi (2700 I think) Gas PW and it was like shaving cream. No worries if you want to save money with a cheaper PW it will work just fine. I also like CG's Honeydew foam, and XMT.

Less foam with Honey Dew? Do you use the same dilution 1:15?
 
I have to ask, I need a soap that does not strip wax, but has long dwell time, anybody use maxisuds 2?

Yes, but I like Honeydew better. Either way, I think it depends how much you use. Either one is very good. Here is MSII after a few minutes of dwell on my BMW:

You can see it clings pretty well.
 
I have a power washer so I don't have to get one :) do I use a wash mitt after I foam or let it sit?

Citrus wash can be used as a maintenance wash at the right dilution level but can also strip wax at a certain dilution level. Mr.pink is supposed to be a maintenance wash shampoo.

I see people get hung up on how much gpm/psi their system has and the general consensus for foam cannons is that more is better. It is true that the higher your gpm/psi the thicker the foam you will get, but it's purely for aesthetics IMO. You really only need a soap that will cover the surface, dwell, and have some cleaning capabilities. Just my theory/opinion
 
Through a foam lance, it should be practically impossible to strip a good LSP. If you use something at a very strong diluition, you need to be aware of the possibility of it leaving a surfactant film which would temporarily hide your LSP's hydrophobic character.
 
To piggy back on this thread,

I noticed at pressure washer direct, there are 2 models of MTM Hydro foam cannons.

They look identical in the pics, but the GPM rating for proper operation is lower on one, near the range of most consumer level electric pressure washers.

I have an old MTM gun that's rated around 2.0 GPM for minimum proper operation, but has anyone tried the newer gun and done any comparisons?

I would like to see someone do a comparison. Some detailing sellers do indicate which one they sell.
 
So I used to have the Craftsmen 1900 psi PW and I returned it today as I wanted more power. It was great while I had it but im on to my third machine. I started with a blackmax 1400psi which sucked. Samsclub took that back and I upgraded to the Craftsmen 1900psi. It was cool. Today I traded it in for the PowerStroke 2700psi with Subaru engine. It makes the foam so thick it is like shaving cream. Now I tried different soap but u need one that has a thick viscosity and made to foam. I used megs Super Soap as it is my GO-TO and it is amazing. Walmart has this PW for $290 and boy its pretty good. I have a 3 month warranty from the store so if it fails me I will just return it and get something else. I have done this 3 times now and always paid the difference into another better machine. I think im in heaven at the moment. Of course, I said that with both other machines not knowing the grass is greener. Gas is the way to go. If u are happy with ur electric that's great but u are surely missing out on power and fun. Good luck with what ever u purchase.

Well Bunky, you're going to get your wish. I broke down and ordered the lower pressure requirement MTM Hydro today to see what it does in direct comparison to my current MTM Hydro.

It'll be compared using a karcher x series K5.740 2000psi, 1.4GPM

I'll be using equal concentrations of Maxi Suds II, and DP Xtreme foam to compare.

I'll let everyone know once it arrives and the weather cooperates.
