So I found out how google is making a killing of you with out you even knowing it and clicks your paying for that you shouldn't be

Here is a pic of the first thing todo is change it to all day so you can see everything that is going on in your account.

Then click dimensions

Then go to "view day" and click on "search terms' and you will see all the wasted money on clicks that have nothing todo with you and are from all over the world.

Here is how to fix it so you save money go "to Key Words" and then click on a key word a small screen will pop up and say yes to change. Then change from "broad" to "phrase" cause if its set to broad you will get people clicking for anything that has auto in or anything similar.

Hope this help and if you have any question please feel free to ask.

This is great info. I think this may be the single largest reason for an adwords campaign to go massively over budget. For a small local business you need all of the clicks to come from your local market.

Exact match terms will focus this even further and give you more control over how you appear in search rankings so you don't show up in unrelated terms like "how to start an auto detailing business."

Great info! Thank you for sharing the knowledge, taking the time to put it together, and the pix showing what/where to click.

Good tip, it is always good to know what keywords you are paying for. You can see this under Keywords tab -> Details dropdown-> All as well. I prefer exact match keywords myself and you can change this at the campaign level too, instead of keyword by keyword.

If you are going to use phrase match, I would also recommend setting up negative keywords so you know certain things will not be bid on. Get negative keywords from the list you have.

Don't forget, you can also call Google adwords support and they will help you setup your adwords to your liking for no charge.

I'm completely ignorant when it comes to this kind of stuff. I'm not sure I want a website, perhaps a facebook page though. However, I haven't used facebook hardly any. So, setting up a business facebook page is sort of daunting. I guess it's that first-step syndrome.

I do like these types of threads though.

They did help me set up my ad but they don't tell you anything about the stuff I'm showing is what sucks.

Great information, thanks for sharing. I'll have to bookmark it and refer back to it when I launch my website.

True, I learned the hard way just like you did. Once I knew what to ask they helped me out.

I'm personally not much affected by this. I'm in such a small market targeting such a small area I actually like to be included in automotive but non detailing related searches just from a branding standpoint. During my busiest times of the year I maybe spend 100-150 on adwords. This time of the year 25-50 a month at the most.

If you are in a big region where a lot of searches go on, you should definitely pay very close attention to your adwords account just like Todd has shown.

Another thing is to make sure you are not being shown on "display" ads. Those are ads randomly put on web pages in order to entice clicks. On a service related local business there is NO money to be made in display ads. Mine are always OFF.

Another note of merit, this is a reason why I really like Facebook ads. You can be VERY specific about who see's your ads, even down to age group, income, and hobbies. Your ad will never go out of what you specify so a small amount of money can go a long way in speaking to your target market.

I only turn my ad words campaign on when I need to fill the next months book. In 6 or 7 days I only spend like $7. Then I turn it off until I need to fill the book. I get way to many calls when I am using ad words.

Haven't seen you in a while! How's the product line rollout coming?

I get 0 calls from Adwords but still use hoping it will work.

What do your ads look like? Are you just getting clicks and no calls?

I get a few clicks here and there but no calls really.
