OK, yes it will work. How quickly I'm not sure. I just ordered the 3" carpro pads. The 5" pads wont work on your 3" backing plate.

okay. is there anyway to remove the backing plate and stick a five on it? or cant i cut the pads down to fit the 3 inch?

I'm not sure if a five inch plate with work on that tool. I'm don't think it would spin the pad under a load.

You can cut the pad to fit, but it would be a waste.

I'm guessing the 3" pads I ordered should be here Friday or Saturday this week.

15,000 RPM? Yikes! You have to keep Cerri Glass wet and it flings everywhere with a DA. I couldn't imagine 15,000 RPM. I think you'll find some on the ceiling and in your hair. Please keep us posted.

15,000 is the no load speed. But it is going to make a mess!

Isn't it rather odd that this particular DA Sander has been given RPM ratings?
NOTE: I can think of at least one other manufacturer of DA's to do likewise.

And: There really isn't an truly accurate chart to convert between RPM's and OPM's, is there?

However:
Flex Tools, due to their having a forced rotation DA, has come up with:
a standard...for converting (as close as possible) their RPM/OPM ratings.

TO WIT:

Flex XC 3401 VRG ...No load speeds: 3200-9600 OPMs/160-480 RPMs

Dial #'s........OPM's/RPM's (no load).....{~20:1}
1................3,200/160
2................4,500/200
3................5,800/270
4................7,000/330
5................8,300/400
6................9,600/480

BTW:
-FLEX PE14-2-150 Rotary Polisher...No load speed: 600-2100 RPM
-PC7424XP "no load speed" 2500-6800 OPM

Now converting the OP's Blue Point DA Sander's (AT402MCA)
15,000 RPM's to ~ OPM's:
15,000 RPM? Yikes!

All of my air powered da Sanders give rpm readings, not opm.

If you hold a flex 3401, and PC type polisher next to each other free spinning, you will see the PC spins much faster .

The Max opm on a PC is 6800 on full speed, #6.
On the flex that is roughly #4 , on the speed setting dial.

Side by side the PC will rotate much more in 1 minute than the flex will. The free spinning hub allows it to spin quicker than the flex. I'm not sure if I'm describing it properly, but I know its a fact.

i recieved my pads towels and ceriglass tonight... once you give me the go im off to pick up the air compressor.. i figured id try it on my dads old truck first to see if it works...

It will work, maybe not really quickly. , but it will work. I'd recommend a compressor that will operate at 90 psi consistently. Having to wait for more air really sucks.

I'm just guaranteeing the tool wont destroy anything, so long as common sense is used. Keep the pad flat, don't start the tool till its touching the surface, don't bump trim, or anything that could be damaged.

Which one are you referring to? The polishers that I have seen from craftsmen were all orbital (wax spreaders). If it is in fact a general orbital polisher that most likely will not give you substantial results because it lacks power for correction.

well thats out the way then. got this air compressor tonight. im going to give it a try on thursday when i have time.. see if this tool and stuff works

If you don't mind:
Would you take pictures of your processes, and progress, as you go about this task?
Thanks.

And the best of wishes on the success of this project!

:)
