Heavy Zaino user potentially switching over to Duragloss - Clarification please!

I'm blown away at the cost difference between Z-8 and AW, even a hardcore Zaino user can't justify buying/using it then.....oh wait, we're talking Zaino here. I resisted trying it back in the day, stepped up and tried Zaino about 6 monthes before I was turned on to AG and really did like the performance! Now that I'm here there's so many other choices out there, trust me I know, I have a lot of them, LOL!

Me too man, still am....
Another example:
1 Gallon of Zaino Z7 Car Wash - $105.76
1 Gallon of Duragloss Car Wash - $30.50

Prices above include tax and shipping.

I found that Duragloss CW is even slicker + generates more suds than the Z7 Car wash.
Been washing my cars with Z7 for years now too...

I have over 4-6 bottles of Z6 and Z8 still at my place.
Hardly going to use any of it, especially when Aquawax is the soooo much cheapeer, even when compared to Z6...

What do you plan to do with the bottles of Z6/8? Cough, cough....wink, wink. Lol :D

Haha, I'll still use them come Summer time.
But won't be buying anymore come refill time I honestly just can't justify the cost and lack of bigger sizes.
Z6 to be hardly of any use until I used Z8...

As for Z5 or Z2, I really, really LOVED the finish Zaino gave me.
It'll be hard to convince me to make the switch.

Minor things like car wash shampoo and detail sprays can be switched out

I used to use Zaino a long, long time ago. I then switched to DG based on the recommendations of Sparkie and AL-53 from this site. I have never looked back. Why?

1) Ease of use. The obsession over layering was not my style. I wanted a quality product that would last AND be easy (ie one coat) to use.

2) Cost. You already touched on that. DG makes an under-priced product. Period. They could easily sell their products for much, much more but the Bailey brothers are good Christian men who don't desire to get stinking rich selling products.

3) Durability. Once the paint is perfected, I like to do a 501 cleaning stage. Is it necessary? Well, I think so and so will you if you use a white pad and see what it looks like after a panel or two. I follow that up with 105. (I'll compare 105 and 111 for you in a minute). I had started to get into the practice of topping 105 with Colli 845 when I was doing cars for a funeral home. That bullet proof 3 step combo was giving them a year of protection on cars that were being washed almost daily. If I was in Florida or a state not seeing snow and salt, I would not do the 845 step. The 105 will easily be enough there.
Edit: I will add one caveat here: I do like the combo of the Collinite wax (even though it is a strong synthetic wax) and sealant to give a "best of both worlds" kind of protection.

4) Looks. Again, this is where using the paint cleaning stage of 501 is so advantageous. Both 105 and 111 look great IMO. AW also enhances the gloss and also seems to make metallics jump too.

Now, as far as comparing 111 to 105 goes, I prefer 105 myself. 111 to me was harder to remove and did not look any better than 105. I ended up giving my bottle of 111 to a friend. I bought a gallon of 105 for myself. There may be a difference in looks. I didn't see it but then again every paint is different. Try both if you want. It's a small investment and then you can be sure of what looks the best on your car(s). 105 is also cheaper too FWIW.

The DG line works. Every product from them is great and some are simply amazing. The cost is low for what you get. You will get differing opinions from a lot of people on everything around here. So, really, what you need to do is try the product(s) that you are interested in and use what you like. Don't feel guilty that you didn't need to spend 6 hours layering a top coat sealant. You honestly don't have to. My suggestion is 501 and then 105 or 111 followed periodically with AW. Done. Now, take all that spare time and perfect your wheels, wells, plastic and interior to make the rest of the car look as good as the outside!

Hope that helped.

Thanks very much for taking the time to type out that response.
Much appreciated.
I'll definitely give #111 a try, I mean it was only $10 after all.
Will need to get into Collinite 845...never touched it.

I swear by DG 601/105/111.. I have not tried 501 but i will soon for sure. The extra depth and gloss 105 and 111 adds is simply amazing. I have been meaning to try Menzerna Power Lock, but I can't pull myself to pay the extra money when DG105/111 works sooo well.. I love these products.

After using DG#111 should I be sealing with Optiseal?
Or is that a bit too much in terms of overkill?
I'd hate to see a bottle of Optiseal go to waste...

I tried Optiseal over 601/105 and 601/501. Did not notice a difference in appearance. Optiseal went on very easy and cured fine. If you have Optiseal it will not hurt to use it but I would not go out of my way to use it. Two things to try are 521 and 921. I liked them enough to get a gallon of each.

Its funny you said you wanna try Collinite, LOL, becareful though, you'll be hooked on that too, I am and I still love DG, not to mention DP as well. The one common thread between DG/DP and Collinite is this, low cost, high performance and no frills advertising, plain and simple, products that work! You'll start with #845 and then end up with #476 and finally, out of curiousity, #915. All Collinite products go a long way too, they spread out far, meaning you use less, I mean a lot less too!

Kinda funny how Collinite comes up in DG threads, LOL!

I got the collinite bug. 845 then 915 and recently 476. And I never finished the first two before buying 476.

It will take a very long time to use up #915 and #476 as its a hard wax compared to the thick liquid consistency of #845 (sometimes turns solid) I'd say the average can of Collinite would last years and years, so if you've got all 3 I'd say you'll use up all of them before the Lions make it to the Superbowl (yes, I'm a Lions fan and can say this, LOL)

I hear ya, same thing with me.
Can't justify some of the high $$$ for the exact same outcome.
I'll definitely drop coin on the more expensive compounds and such but when it comes to finishing glazes and waxes, etc. I feel like I have no reason to spend so much to have the same outcome.
Hence me considering the switch over to Zaino.

Good to know, I don't see myself using 521/921 at all.
Reminds of Zaino Z6 which I hardly ever used.
I felt like after you've used Zaino Z8/Duragloss Aquawax no point in stepping down to Z6 or 521, just my thoughts though.

I've got a full bottle of Optiseal as well as Zaino ZCS so I'm glad to hear that there are no issues.

Did some reading on the forums, Collinite seems to be quite the product as long as you know how to use it.
Less is more, same thing as Zaino.
I have a full can of #476 which I received as a free bonus after spending $150+ sitting around, untouched.
I'm definitely going to order some #845 as well.

LOL! Good to know.

Collinite is VERY easy to use! I've applied to the whole car, then removed and even left it on the car for an entire day (underground garage parking spot) and NO issue removing or dusting, I did this "just to see" and expected no problems.

It is funny it always comes up.........just like DG products, Collinite products perform as they say they do!

You can't go wrong with any DG product.....they work, they are inexspensive, and they work! LOL

Collinite the same way.

between the two product lines you can get some awesome results and some serious long term durability.

I gotta admit...it's hard to believe how good some of these products are.
The low price I'm sure turns people away and the lack of bottle design I'm sure would do the same.
That's why I really appreciate these forums + member's feedback with such products.
Thanks guys!

Well Toxxic, as you and some forum members know, price is a direct link to quality but the bottle design is the key to sucess, throw in a catchy "play on name" phrase and you've got a cult hit on your hand! The lower priced, basically labeled products that simply perform as intended are reserved for the serfs to use, LOL!

As they say whatever floats ur boat!!!!

I have changed a few times on products to see what i like the best.

Yup I recommend Duragloss as a substitute to Zaino. Not the EXACT same product, but darn similar and your pocket will thank you. Darn easy to find locally.
